I need to do gravel driveway work and re-seeding of approx. one acre lawn; I have a back blade and am thinking of buying a wood's 48 in landscape rake to help with thedrive way and tearing up the lawn for re-seeding. Is this a good idea? and does anyone have a price for the Woods rake? thanks.

They don't weigh enough to tear up the lawn. I have a 7 footer, it's great for driveway maint and smoothing and leveling topsoil. If you need to tear up the existing lawn you need a tiller. When I seed a lawn I use my tiller, box scaper, FEL and rake. If I could only have 1 tool for new lawns it would be the tiller.

I second that.

I'd add that you might be able to rent the tiller for a weekend. The landscape rake is a great investment for you long term driveway needs and will work well to level and clean up the tilled lawn.

Woods makes good stuff. Just make sure to get the gauge wheels. If you don't, the rake will dig in when the front wheel hit an incline. It's not much fun and hard to get a nice surface without them.

In what order and for what tasks do you use each of the tools you mention?

I will third that suggestion. I have to say the landscape rake I have is the worst implement I have. Having said that the rake I bought at the deer dealership does not have guage wheels and I am convinced that is my biggest problem. Also if you have any rocks once you till it up then you will be pulling rocks and dirt.

For the lawn especially here in NC the best bet is to put out lime, till the soil and lime(you would want to add starter fertilizer) as well and then drag. I found some scrap chain link fence and added some weight for the drag.

For the driveway maintenance if you have a box blade they are great for driveway maintenance. I have about 300-400 feet and no pot holes and level as can be.

If you are located anywhere near Bahama/Durham shoot me a PM and I would be happy to chat.
