9:30 last night my wife screamed as though an armed robber had just entered our home. I run up stairs and see a large brown bat swooping around, I proceed to the garage for large long handled fish net. Upon return this bat is no where to be found, I turned the house upside down. Anyone know what might startle a bat to get it on the fly again; noise, scent or any other method. My ears won't tolerate much more of her squawking about this stupid bat.

I had that happen once in my house, the bat came all the way downstairs and my granddaughter pointed at it up in the corner of a room. It went to flight and flew back up stairs and disappeared. Never saw it inside again, and never did figure out where it came in or went back out.

You should have grabbed your shotgun and started throwing flak. Just kidding! :D

Actually you probably had a 'small brown bat' <==name that looked large. Those guys can squeeze through a quarter inch gap. Look to the ceiling especially in dark places.

Last winter I had one buzzing me so I went after it with a fly swatter. Eventually I chased it into a side room and closed the door. Then I realized that it was my bedroom! Anyhow I went in and swung away, it must have been like Pearl Harbor, until I knocked it down. Then I used tongs to throw it on the ground outside the window. It probably perished since bats can't fly off the ground. Good meal for a feral cat.

Look around the house for bat droppings on the ground and you'll find the crack that they used to get in. A little caulking will stop that.

I just caught the intruder and released it. Bat is happy, wife is happy. Glad thats done. It seems as though it just appeared, I have no idea where it came from inside the house while we we're sitting here.

I wouldn't do anything to hurt a bat, they are one of the more beneficial creatures in my neighborhood as they naturally help keep the insect population under control. I often see them flying around my yard in the summer evenings eating mosquitos and such, and I do everything I can to encourage that activity:)

Perhaps 12 years ago, we had a lake cottage, used on the weekends. New construction, so it was pretty tight. We would go down there Fridays after work, come home Sunday after dinner.

One week, my wife calls me soon after we get there. On the dish rack, under the dishes left from the week before to dry, she points out what she thought was a dead small brown mouse. I carefully bring it outside and release it. It flies away. Roughly about then she realizes it was not a mouse, nor was it dead.

The next week we arrive, and lo and behold, under last weeks dishes is our friend, snoozing away. I repeat the process, this time with a nasty muttered threat to the invader. Thankfully, it took my threat seriously and decided not to return a third time. I suppose he did not like us waking him.

We never did learn how the fellow got in. Probably through the attic, then a can light into the kitchen. They can squeeze through quite small cracks.

I caught a bat in my house and cornered it down on the floor in that little kickspace beneath the cabinets. I managed to get the shop vac out and suck that little bugger onto the hose, he paused, and then got sucked in. All of course at 2AM in my skivvies. The next day I let the live bat out of the shopvac tank and onto the ground, he disappeared after an hour.

You folks don't think he could have flown off of the ground?

Keep on duty, it just might come back in a day or two. It seems around here once they find a way in they return, often!

I think this bat turned into the smartest grounhog on the planet. Right after I let the bat go I recieved a fat old ground hog that is disrupting the flowerbeds. He is wary of the windows opening to poke a rifle out of. He knows the sound of the sliding door, and I'm starting to feel like Bill Murray. I will set up on him Sat. early A.M. then hopefully , bang gravy.:D
