Larger Battery for UTV??

Just FWIW, although I would replace a dead battery with a bigger one, I wouldn't replace a good battery with a bigger one.
I have the Polaris ranger diesel with front and rear winches. I have used both together pulling things out (tractor out of a ditch etc). I also have various light bars on it (but no stereo :). It gets used several times a day, a lot of short distance (less than 1 mile) start/stopping.

It is still on its original battery from 2011. Winches use surprisingly little power, especially these small ones. As long as it's running and the alternator is charging (you can hear it load the engine), a bigger battery won't really do anything for you.

I've set up about 6 ATVs and UTVs over the year's all for work at night with extra lights and power hungry systems added. Never put and extra battery in any of them and our boss 6x6 was the only one that gave us low battery greif.

I have the Kubota diesel RTV. I plug into the acc. port to power my fuel station pump, keeping the engine running. If I’m just fueling the RTV, the wire behind the plug gets pretty hot. But when I fuel both the RTV and the tractor, it often pops the RTV’s fuse. Will a bigger battery keep this from happening?

There are reasons why a wire gets hot. A small battery is not the issue.

Most likely, the wire is too small in diameter, too long or both creating more resistance thus the heat. This is not a normal or safe situation, especially where a fire can break out while fueling. It might be a good idea to get an electrician involved or at least post a new thread on this forum with the pump information, what you are trying to do and how long the plug is. good luck

I have a Kubota DIESEL UTV. No problems but just added a Winch. I know that a winch draws alot of powerr. The battery box (under and behind driver) seems large and I was wondering....hmmm...could I install a larger battery? Suggestions? Thanks
I’m curious, did you direct connect to the battery? I did the same but I added a fuse block and ran mine through it. Problem is it will blow a 40 amp fuse if it gets very much load on the winch. I may have to move power directly to battery or put a inline fuse in that can accommodate a 50-60 amp fuse. Thoughts?

The purpose of the fuse is to blow if there is excessive resistance that could become dangerous. Better the fuse than catching fire.
Putting in a higher fuse is literally making it worse.

I don't know the size of the motor but I would be surprised that anything over 15 amp on a SXS is worth getting some expert help.

For reference, my entire RV 30 amp fuse will flip off if I am using the microwave+ big A/C unit+anything else.
If you are blowing a 40 amp fuse you are pulling energy to run my entire RV system is rated for.

Thanks, Root Cause, for your thoughts on the fueling power. Didn't mean to commandeer Boeing's thread. I'll do as you suggested. First off, the wire is way longer than it needs to be...

My apologies as well to the Op but in this case, worthwhile. Good luck and be safe.
