John Deere 970TLB,
I guess this might be a question for someone who is a dealer in Yanmar Gray Market Tractors. I know Yanmar makes larger tractors than are common in the U.S. Gray Market. YM 4300, 4500, 5000, 6000, 7000. Don't seem to be any of these commonly for sale in the U.S. like the small ones are. Is there a reason for this?? Could it be that in the larger sizes they loose their price advantage or the parts availability becomes a real issue?? I'm asking because I can see where soon I might need double the HP that my YM 3000 has. Hopeing that a dealer might have the answer to this one, thanks
Chris

My wild guess would be..........

1) Not as plentiful as the smaller units in Japan
2) Not as many will fit in a container
3) Smaller number per container means a higher shipping price per unit

Cannot be competitive in price with the used farm tractor market. There are zillions of used farm tractors in the 50HP and up range. Can't afford to bring a model in for that one sale in a thousand. We buy what we know we can sell in a reasonable time at a reasonable profit.

There are very few over 40HP Yanmars available. 90% (my guess) of the used machines in Japan are under 25HP.

Then if I understand what you are saying here is no one is bringing them because they can't compete with JD, NH, etc size for size outside the compact tractor size. Having lived in Japan for 2 years I remember most farms were small, it would figure that adverage tractor size would also be small. Guess if I'm going to need 60-75hp better start looking at a deere. New to ag. and trying to figure some of the angles before making mistakes. Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
The real issue is availability. Larger Yanmars are very rare. As such, supply and demand would dictate a higher price, but honestly, I rarely see them available at any price.

Look hard at a Zetor. They are pretty impressive and priced right. They are good enough to manufacture for John Deere.
I have researched the larger 50+ hp units. I was surprised at what I found on them.
