I've also got some good ideas from the "MY Little Homestead" channel.

Last Thursday night I wasn't working, so stayed at the camp. I've found 4 wild blueberry bushes around the pond, and they are later getting ripe than the planted one. Three of them still have green berries, so I'll be eating them for at least a couple more weeks. I made my berry eating round, like I always do, then went back to the camp for my snacks. Right now I'm in a Graham cracker, peanut butter and honey phase. It's been so hot I haven't been building a fire to heat my coffee. I've learned to nuke it twice as long as normal, then it is still drinkable a couple hours later. {just remember not to take a sip too soon} Anyway, I stripped down to my underwear and camo slippers, sprayed real good with bug spray and had my crackers and coffee. Then I turned on the radio. I have a really good college station GC9.7 | Your LOCAL Public Radio Station. that plays XPoNential Radio all night. Most of the time, I really like the mix, but there were a couple lame songs in a row, so I decided to tune in the other NPR station from Panama City. You wouldn't believe what they had going on. Lots of folks talking about what a kind and sweet lady this one person was, when just a week ago, there was another punch of folks saying how bad this same lady was. Then the said lady came on to speak, and I remembered I had not done any digging lately. So with my headlight, boxers and slippers, I went and got the shovel and proceeded to dig. I worked at it a while, then went to see if the lady was still talking. She was. I changed the slippers for socks and shoes, and went back and dug a little more. If we could just get those things scheduled every week, I might get this project finished.

I have talked to my cousin with the backhoe. He will do some digging for me as soon as our schedules work out. And I'm thinking about using the 3930 and boxblade to move the dirt I have got out a little further away. That may let me get a little more out. One swipe with the boxblade will move as much as I could in a day with the shovel.

I'm surprised we haven't heard any poisonous snake stories out of this, you are a very patient man for sure.

I did go from sleeping on the ground to using my old Army cot when the snakes started crawling in the Spring. But I haven't seen any poisonous ones this year. The BIL did kill a rattler without any rattles, but that was behind their house, a mile from the camp. He said that it had lost it's rattles so long ago it wasn't even trying to rattle anymore. That is a scary thing to think about.

They're saying they won't rattle as much these days according to some studies, keeps them from getting killed, according to the study:confused3:

I read somewhere that some believe it is a genetic mutation to keep the rattlesnakes from getting eaten by the wild hogs

In this case they had been lost to some sort of injury. But it had happened so long ago, that it wasn't even trying to rattle anymore.

No good pictures to prove it, but I have been digging an hour or two each night I camp. Except for this last week, when my wrist was reminding me I'm 55 years old. I've built up a good supply of clay and sand for cob. Also cut the tall grass down by the pond for straw. I hope to get back to work on my outside fireplace soon. I also hope it cools off enough for a fire to make coffee soon. We have yet to have a low in the 60's. That to me is the first sign that fall is coming soon. We do have 3 days in the 10 day forecast with lows in the 60's, but we will have to wait and see if it happens.

It sounds from the forecast that it might be bit wet down there for the next few days (though maybe not as bad where you are as in central FL). I hope your burrow doesn't flood.

I'm sure some sand is washing in right now. We are getting rain, but nothing bad so far. The wife was just showing me pictures of my cousin's place down in Tampa. Several tall oak and pine trees came down. They think it was a twister. None on the house though.
