Late Night Prowler - animal

After our "city" cat ended up MIA, and seeing prints near the cabin, I set up a wildlife camera and last night caught this on film. Do coyotes get this dark this time of year or is this a wild dog? I'll set up again tonight to see if I can get his face.

I would say that is a coyote. Last fall turkey hunting I had a coyote that was completely black come within 20 yards of me. I actually mistook it for a dog.

Looks like a german Sheppard to me. The coyotes around here are pretty scraggly looking. Most are missing half their hair and look like they've been dragged under a car for several miles. They are all gray or a slight brownish gray too.

Looks more like dog to me, maybe some kind of shepard-mix.

I think he's a dog also - He's too bulky to be a coyote - A coyote would smaller and leaner - Especially in the south

I'm pretty confident it's not a coyote, but dogs that run at night are different. Even friendly Bowser can turn into a killer if allowed to run at night....especially if they pack up with others.

The coloring and size seem to fit well with it being a shepard.

I'd say shepard. He looks pretty well kept, not wild at all. Just allowed to run free...
