Yup...that's a Shepard. Maybe a local resident.

I have a German Shepard and last year I walked up to a coyote thinking it was her. I was WRONG. Look around for some poop. Coyote poop has fur in it. Shepard/dog poop doesn't!

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking dog also until this evening, the coyote yelps were close, loud and plentiful. If it is a dog, and it ate our cat, a lot of coyotes around here are getting the blame. I have the camera set up again tonight for a double shot, maybe I can get a picture of him turning around. The poop around here does have fur in it.

Don, Coyotes, will only stay in an area where they are DOMINATE animal. Southern States farm supplies, or whom ever you have, get them to order you some Cougar urine. Dipp small rags into the urine and spread them around your property about 4' above ground on to a tree.
They will definately attack small dogs, cats and small children. If very hungery like any animal they will take even more risk!!
Be safe!! Frank

Definitely too wide to be a coyote. German shepard on the loose it what it appears.

The tail and especially the one visible ear make it look like a shepard to me, too.

txdon:

Sorry to hear about the MIA cat :(. A lot of things can "take out" a cat at night including bad german shepards, foxes, coydogs, coyotes, fishercats, and larger owls including the great horned and grey barred. Around my area the animals most often blamed are the coydogs/coyotes and fishercats with owls coming in third. Jay

No interesting pictures last night. There were a few pictures with nothing in them. Would the animal trotting by the camera activate the camera and then when the picture is taken he is already passed by? I did get a few pictures of cows also. We have owls and hawks that frequent the trees in the yard. I am still hoping to get a picture of the large elusive black cat that we see in the woods once or twice every year. (The one the game warden say does not exist in this area.)

Add me to the dog crowd.
Hopefully your game cam will get a better picture next time. Just hope it is a coyote. If it is a dog, you have no options. At least you can lawfully dispatch a coyote.
