I am so sorry to see you going through this.

I would ask for a complete refund for the snow caster as the construction of the new cross auger is poor beyond words.

This Implement should never run like this as the chain drive should simply hum at the 540 R.P.M. speed or lower. You do not need a dial indicator to see its bad and not running true.

Just copy the web address and paste in your reply.

I agree that chain drives make some noise, but like it has been stated there shouldnt be that "rythmic" resonance sound.

I dont know the whole story... I would not take that unit as repaired.
If you paid for a new blower thats what you should get, If thats the best they can do, whats any warranty work gunna look like down the road.

I would ask for my money back.

I am amazed that they cannot see the amount of play. If you look towards the rear - smaller sprocket - you can see the play by the shadow being cast from the chain and it may be exaggerated but appears to be out by 1/4" or more.

Unfortunately without 100% satisfaction I think you will be forever questioning the operation and this may weigh heavily on you for years to come. I would ask for my money back and go elsewhere or have them replace with a new one - approved by you - running on one of their tractors before you take delivery and approved by you running on your machine after delivery as well.

If they've offered to buy back the unit, your problem is solved, don't wait until they change their minds, take the money and run. Buy something you'll be happy with that will last 40yrs.

After looking at the video, I would definately ask for a full refund and buy your new snowblower somewhere else. I say this for a couple of reasons:

1) It seems as if Messick's doesn't want to side with the customer and is leaving it up to the customer to decide on what is acceptable or not. That in itself, is a warning or flag to me. They are trying to sit on the fence and not be in either court - customer satisfaction does not seem to be in their approach. All they want to do is get it out of their way and smooth things over.

2) Looking at the snowblower video, it seems as if the auger shaft is too far to the left by maybe 1/2" - or the thickness of the chain. The shaft should run true with the chain sprockets in line with each other - that is not the case here, that I can see. The chain is also rubbing on the teeth of the sprockets - that means the two sprockets are out of alignment and are damaging both the chain and sprockets. That says to me, the "so called" experts are not toooo bright and really don't know what they are doing.

It might just be me, but as I look at the video, the above mentioned condition does exist. Also, I would be hard pushed to say the auger shaft has any bend as the movement of the auger scroll is too distracting. Proper use of a dial indicator would show if the is a bend in the shaft.

On the principle that you purchased "a new snow blower" not a used one, I would tell Messick's that what they and /or Woods propose is unacceptable. Definately take your money and your business elsewhere. After several months and still no new snow blower - enough is enough. The customer service is not their strong point.

Please let us know what you decide - I am sure lotsa people would like to know.

Good luck

I'd be interested in hearing of another brand going under this
scrutiny. matter of fact, when we have to set chain tension
on the JD 47 front mount blowers, there is always a bit of runout
on the sprockets, and you have to adjust at your tightest
position so as not to create a bind. quite easy to see as you
rotate the sprockets, just watch the chain tighten and loosen.

i can't say if i have ever watched any of the frontier or
econor blowers i have sold in the past 13 years this closely,
so i can't say if any of them had an issue, never had one come
back.

one thing we didn't get to see, was video of the original blower setup and
how far off it was. i am sure from what has been posted it was
not acceptable, but in the new video it's hard to tell but it doesn't
look crazy bad. yea, there's some variance in the drive, but i didn't
see sparks!! and i wonder once it's in the snow how much you will hear it...

just some thoughts...

If this snow caster had a sliding tray type of adjustment for the cross auger on both ends with a 2 row chain drive I could say the measurement for the chain tension was wrong and needed to be squared up, but this NEW MESS is not good in any case.

I would still ask for a refund of my hard earned monies.

I just got off the phone with my salesman and expressed my displeasure with the machines operation. I also informed him of your opinions of the video. I got the response that this is a lower price point blower and it might just be accepable to woods, he just wasnt sure. Woods + $4000 machine doesnt add up to a lower price point unit to me? I explained that if the engineer came out and said "man, we have a problem here" and orders a fix, why is this one doing almost the same thing. He agreed and we decided to send this video directly to woods to hear straight from the horses mouth if they consider this normal or not, or if there may still be a production problem, or something wrong with the geometry of my unit. He was also going to try to hook up a larger meteor blower and see how it ran.

The engineers explanation for the issue was that during construction of the auger, the endplate that the sproket bolts to was warping during welding. They implemented different welding techniques and adjusted their tolorences for runout. Seems like it didnt really work.

So at this point, once again I wait. Guess we'll see what woods has to say. I told him if its normal, i would be looking for a refund. I hope they are willing to cough up the 300 in shipping as well. In actuality all I want is a smooth running machine! Ugh...:(

I was watching the chain on my Farm King 600 and found it to run perfectly smooth. I'm sorry to say, but i would tell the dealer to "refund my money" plus shipping charges that may apply, and go else where and buy possibly another brand. If and when you find another have the dealer mount that actual blower on a tractor and physically run it and see it operate.
Just because this is a "lower priced" blower is an excuse and is Unacceptable! Please don't settle for that answer. I paid 1600$ for my Farm King 600 and it is "Mint" in operation, paint and every feature. My last Farm King lasted 16 years, under hard use / abuse, Its completely worn out and still sounds and the chain looks better running than the machine you and the dealer own, sorry to say. Want to buy my old one? . . .Ha Ha! Get the money back! and good luck . . .John
