Just read GM,Subaru and others now are going to have a mandatory subscription for;heated seats, remote start ect.Can you imagine!Unreal. In GM's case you are forced to purchase OnStar,no choice rolled into the price.
I was considering a trade, this may be enough for me(and a lot of others) not too.High end luxury
vehicles have had this for a while.

My heated and air-conditioned seats are built in. I suspect negotiating at the dealer will be lifetime sub or no deal with the walk-away.

I wonder how the subscription will keep people from jerry-rigging the things functional?

Software firewalls have failed to prevent the entire auto industry from doing nearly anything they want to insofar as reprogramming ECUs and this is in light of the growing Right-to-Work repair movement.

Electronic road signs malfunction occasionally. The human behind the wheel in the vehicle must use sensory input and change or adapt to existing condition and not let a electronic device be the one making the decision.

A good example of what is being discussed are the California Tesla Drivers. Tesla drivers using auto pilot have been involved in 273 reported crashes over roughly the past year in California.

Are you saying that when the caution signs are up it's still OK to go blasting on through? How about in construction zones? Is that also acceptable?

I have two GM Vehicle. Remote Start, heated seat, heated steering wheel, cruise control, adaptive cruise on one of the vehicles, navigational systems, XM Radio and a host of other features. When the complimentary On Star ended I did not elect to pay for that since I use my cell phone which I have paired with the vehicle. Navigational upgrades also have not been purchased. Incidentally Garmin Navigational Units are great and offer life time free updates.

For the GM vehicles I store name and address data, etc on my iPhone and use the information on the iPhone to obtain a GPD location, make phone calls etc when traveling.

The only month fees I pay are for the commercial free XM Radio. Now if I wanted the capability to lock and unlock or start one of the vehicles while I was traveling on an airplane several states away or from a foreign country I would pay for, and have On Star.

I can also load music (CD Albums) on a 264 GB USB drive and play it from the radio in either vehicle.
Geesh Gator I don’t have any of those things and I have 50 vehicles… well not 100% accurate… the Range Rover has heated seats when it worked…

No I am saying when it is 101 degree and the "Ice Ahead", Bridges Ice Before Roadway Sign" is flashing it is time to let that appendage called a head we have sitting on our shoulders go to work and stop being along just for the ride.

Information we receive on GPD (Navigational Units) was inputted by a human. Humans make mistakes. Also companies or personnel inputting GPS traffic and roadway condition have Boiler Plate responses. If one of the Boiler Plate winter responses is accidentally deployed in the summer we as a prudent driver must be InControl of the vehicle not following the instructions provided by a electronic device.

I do not think I would want to own 50 vehicles. The number one killer besides maintenance would be the Insurance and Tag and Tax fees.

India made Range Rovers and Jaguars are famous for gremlins.

The Pune Plant, in India: Makes Jaguars and the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

Some are exempt, some registered non-op and insurance is a bargain… 24 fully insured collector vehicles runs me $1200 annulled… truly a bargain as my my daily 20 year old Toyota driver is also $1200.

You are right on California registration and it adds up… my least expensive is $140 so the bulk are registered non-op.

Just the maintenance would be a backbreaker. Moving the vehicle on a regular basis to insure tires did not flat spot, etc would be more than I would want to do each month. Plus provide a weather proof facility to prevent sun and weather damage would be costly.

Heated and air conditioned seats are not monthly fee items on a motor vehicle. Neither are the brakes or power steering. Of course having either repaired, air conditioner or brakes on a modern day late model car with ABS and climate control will almost give one cardiac arrest.

Only half the vehicles are licensed/insured… the rest are projects…

The antiques are the easiest to keep… mechanical brakes, gravity fuel systems, magneto ignition, etc.

Blocks of wood are cheap and California mild climate helps… some of the restored vehicles are tractors with a 1939 motorcycle in the mix…

The plan was to collect a representative from every decade with a full restoration shop…

Still looking for that perfect property so it may never happen… thought WA would be good but humidity and rodents were new problems there.

I have a friend that has about five old vehicles on blocks. Listening to his problems has been enough to keep me from even considering such. I had never given any thoughts to the springs on a vehicle until he started talking about "Spring Collapse or Settle" from not being exercised through use on stored vehicles.
