I always put mine on my chains at the position and links that I attach them at so I can remember how they were installed. With the square pattern chains it take a bit to remember how I put them on and what links were used.

I always put things back and in a specific spot. Well, 99% of the time. Otherwise, I don't even bother, because if they aren't in "their" spot, they could be on 85ac with equal likelihood.

I just go buy another... it frustrates me, because I know better.

I keep my chains in two 5 gallon buckets. System works pretty well. Even have tie wire that's dedicated to chains so I don't have to search for it.
