I know what you mean. I think I agree with EddieWalker on this one. Let the grass grow as long as it works. Only time I groom mine is when water pools in it or it gets too rough, as long as it looks okay.

A more labor, less-equipment solution would be to just use a string trimmer. If you hired a commercial groundkeeping contractor, they would probably just assign somebody to walk the edge with a gas string trimmer. Being in the money-making business, they know how to get results the cheapest, even if its not always the easiest on their employees.
