wow this stuff is confusing... Are there any brands that are recommended and others to stay away from?

I like the Lesco professional fertilizers. Their blends tend to use less nitrogen than the popular products like Scotts. Then adding iron, they achieve good greening without it growing so fast you have to mow everyday.

Lesco products are available at The Home Depot.

If you just want cheap greening, use plain sulfur coated urea (46-0-0), and apply at a very low rate. A 50 lb bag can do about 40k or 50k sq ft.

Yes, you can use liquid for your lawn. No, the tripple 20 is not the stuff to use. Turf grass typically uses fertilizer in a 3-1-2 to 4-1-2 ratio from the soil. Liquid fertilizers are made to dissolve redily in liquid, so irrigation and rain wash them right out of the root zone. Typically liquid lawn fertilizers are applied on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, or even injected into the irrigation water on occation. For the typical homeowner, I would not recommend regular fertilization by liquid application because the cost is too high to do it properly (as you have found). A cheap walk behind broadcast spreader will allow you to cover large areas pretty quickly with a granular slow release fertilizer and then you would only need to apply it about 3-4 times per year (depending on where you live).

I have a 30 gallon tow behind sprayer but no spreader. I want to fertilize my lawn but most places only sell granular fertilizers for spreaders. I found some water soluble granular 20-20-20 at the local seed and feed dealer that will mix well with water. My question is, will the 20-20-20 do the trick for a lawn?

I'd recommend checking with your local soil conservation or extension office. Here in KY, they'll check your soil samples for free (well, you pay for it in your taxes ) and tell you exactly which fertilizer to use, and when it should be applied.

I want to put down nitrogen liquid. Mowing is not a problem, my lawn makes me sick.
Where can I get it asap, liquid N today.

Thanks,

Joe

Tractor Supply Company sells liquid lawn fertilizer. It is much more expensive than using dry fertilizer, and does not last as long.

It's also usually not a good idea to try and feed your lawn when it is hot.

Check out Milorganite. It is an organic granular fert. You can Google it to get info. Slow release, won't burn, you don't have to water it in.

Started using it this year after topdressing with compost, and the lawn has done much better than when I used synthetic ferts. Very lush green.

You might want to contact the company below...I have pasted their info. they sell liquid fertilizer, it is organic as well and they sell it to golf courses and landscapers - I know they are in some home depot stores but if you call them they could give you more info about their product and where or how to buy it.
