I just picked up a heavy duty roller that is 60" wide. I took around 110-120 gallons of water to fill it. I just rolled my lawn but may be using it again and its supposed to drop down to 30 on Sunday night and 25 on Monday night. Should I be on the safe side and go ahead and dump it all back out. I also just got my sprayer cleaned out from winter storage and now have a bit of clean water sitting in the bottom of it also. The sprayer will be in an un-insulated tool shed and the roller will be outside.

I'd at least take the plug out of the roller. Then I think you'll be OK.
And I leave my boom sprayer and tank in an open pole barn without problem. I crack the lid so if anything freezes, the air can escape as the liquid expands. I should really get in the habit of winterizing it, but it's been working this way for five years.

absrio, would you mind telling us what brand, model and where you got it? Post a link if you can. I am in need of a lawn roller that is in the same size range. Thanks! :p

TSC had a manager's special on lawn rollers last Fall, naturally off-season and after I had already bought one. They were 50% off.

I would need a minimum of a 50 incher to cover my tracks. Anyone have a link to a site that I can purchase from? Thanks! :p

I doubt you have to worry about it, I have my roller filled already also and haven't given it a thought.
We've been getting freezing temps at night to but it's only a few hours at a time in the middle of the night, the days are in the 40's and 50's so little chance any significant freezing is going on in that roller.
For something like a sprayer or other tools with pumps where water is in thin/small pipes or other small areas where the outer surface is exposed to the outside air, might be a good idea to make sure they are drained out.

Maybe dump some antifreeze in the roller...

I agree with JB4310. That much water in your roller would take, I'd guess, over a 24 hour period of below freezing to completely freeze depending on how far under 32* it was, and unless it froze solid, I don't see much chance of anything breaking.

Well I went ahead and drained it anyways. I wasnt sure if I would use it again this spring anyways. I picked it up at the local Agco dealer. Not sure what brand it is its a heavy duty with greaseable bearings and I believe I can adjust the length of the tounge. They also sold a 72" version but were sold out. With tax it came to about $600 expensive but it should last a long time.

I've been batting around the idea of building my own lawn roller with sonotube/concrete with some sort of pipe (possibly chain link fence post) through the center for an axle, then possibly a slightly smaller diameter pipe with appropriate fittings (elbows, etc) inside of the axle tube and fashioned into some kind of tongue or draw bar.
I'm thinking that I need one about 6 feet wide, possibly 10 or 12 inch diameter to pull behind a Kubota B3030.
Anyone fabricated themselves one of these? Any pictures?

Well, I've kinda seen one. A homemade concrete roller came with the house. I didn't know what it was at the time, as it was in pieces and the concrete was pretty chipped. It used a solid pipe, 1" or so, for the axle. The framework that pulled it was nothing more than 1/4 x 3" flatbar. I was cutting one side of the flatbar frame one day (for some project) when my neighbor came over and told me what it was for. It was nothing fancy, it just had a couple holes on either side that the solid axle spun in and was "Y" shaped. The diameter of the roller was 10 or 12". If I was making one I would place rebar the length of the roller inside of it to keep it held together better. That seemed to be its demise.

Good idea. Or maybe add a rolled up piece of wire mesh. Trying to think of a way to use two 4' sections of tube (that's all local Home Depot or Lowe's stocks) with a small gap between the two so that they rolled separately. That way one would turn a little faster or slower than the other when making a sharp turn instead of skidding.

I would definitely use your axle method then.

I rolled again today. And aerated.
