Has anybody made a striping attachment for their mower to make those pretty alternating "light-dark-light" stripes in their yard when they mow? I have a B7500 with the 60" MMM and am thinking about a new way to do it.

Striping is just the bending of the grass, so grass bent away from you looks lighter than the grass bending towards you.

You can enhance the bending of the grass by putting chains on some angle iron and bolting that to the rear of your mower deck (or somewhere in the rear of the tractor) or mounting some hard rubber that extends below your mower deck as well.

Both of these things will push the grass in the direction that you are mowing.

Many companies make striping kits, you may want to see if you can find one for yours. I have no idea what these kits cost.

The mowing deck on my Ventrac tractor has a lawn "striper" on it. It is just a very long roller (about 50" long) and about 3" in diameter that is attached to the rear of the mower deck and hangs down below the trailing edge of the deck to compress the grass.

I would think you could make one pretty easily if you could find the roller. My mower deck rides in the hydraulic "float" position so it does not really press very hard against the ground while mowing, but the striper really does make a nice wide stripe. On my lawn, which is really comprised of some reclaimed pasture lands, the concept of lawn striping is sort of silly, but I will admit that it looks pretty cool.

Does it help roll out the bumps or is it just enough pressure to lay the grass over? Perhaps a better question, does the roller use the wieght of the deck, the roller itself or both? I.E. Spring loaded

Don't tell that to the groundskeepers of Major League Baseball fields (with grass)

Here is a link to some pictures of striped lawns

GATORBOY . . . you took what I wrote out of context!

My lawn is pretty much rough field that has been mowed so often that it is mostly grass, but that is hardly lawn. And I did qualify my statement with that disclaimer.

I always figured you were 0 or 1 of the people I could count on to be accurate with postings. . . /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But then it wouldn't have made my comeback quite as funny. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Let's just call it strike 1 against me -- 10 more and it will be 11 strikes, YOU'RE OUT! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was thinking about bolting a piece of horse stall mat on the back edge of my finish mower (left over from my snow plow blade edge.) This should bend the grass over....

Whaddayathink?
