Lawyers, doctors, or guns

The first time I went to London, in 1969, I had the most impressive experience in cultural differences.

Remember, this was the time in the US of civil rights marches, racial hatred, anti-war marches and protests, student sit-ins and uprisings, Kent State, the Chicago Seven, police brutality, rubber bullets and water cannon used by police against demonstrators, mass jailings, violence, and riots in LA, Newark and elsewhere. The land of the first and second amendments.

So, I'm in Hyde Park on Sunday. I find Speaker's Corner. This is a corner of the park where for a few hours on Sundays anyone can stand on a speakers platform and say anything they want. Thousand of people are there, picknicking and listening to different speakers rant on about different subjects.

I was listening to a red-bearded fellow named Axel. He was orating as eloquently as anyone I have ever heard--all the time nipping from a quart of Scotch. His subject was a tirade against the police. How they abused people, intruded on liberty. He advocated uprising, revolution and violence. He was mesmerizing. The crowd was cheering and cheering. Some tried to heckle him but Axel devastated them with his brilliant rhetorical skills. The goverment must be overthrown, Parliament must be torn down brick by brick. This guy was serious. He sounded like a British Adolph ******. The crowd is screaming with both approval and hatred.

All of a sudden a Bobbie standing there catches Axel's eye and taps his watch. Axel stops in mid-sentence, says he'll continue next Sunday, and steps down from the platform. The crowd politely disburses.

One word leaped to my mind: CIVILIZED.

Well that certainly is impressive! Now if other "native americans" would follow the same policies instead of setting tire fires on interstates whenever they don't get their way we'd all be better off. Don't get me wrong, I'm not generalizing or stereotyping. I have some personal friends that are Senaca's. They would never advocate or participate in such things.
You're right, I think we should ALL be classified as "Native Earthlings"!

Wingnut,
Don't know that it would clean up the shallow end of the gene pool. I heard somewhere /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif that only stupid people are breeding /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Given I'm expecting #2, I can't argue with the song./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

JonE,
Does Anne Hecht qualify as a native earthling, or only 1/2 native earthling?

As far as I can tell, I've spent most of my life on earth. As for some of us, it seems that we have our own microcosm. Of course that is what my wife thinks this site is.
As for Anne Hecht(provided we're on the same page) she's right on the money. Uh oh, better hit the floor to miss that GUN FIRE coming my way!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Bird;
Your right it does not hurt and I have nothing to hide, but it's the principle that bugs me. A presumption of guilt just because I want to exrecise my rights. Also I would feel better If I had some confidence that those cards do not get scanned into the fingerprint database that contians all the felons./w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif
They are suppose to be destroyed after a background check at the FBI, but.....

Harv: You are hardly dense. Some day ill show you a picture of my first culvert...... not a pretty sight./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif And I had the benifit of your tutorial!

Yeah Phred, I was surprised when I first came to Bird's home state 4 years ago. Went in to get my driver's license and I had to get fingerprinted to get one. I wasn't happy about it because I agree with you . . . It's the principle of the thing. Anyway, why does the government need that kind of information about a law-abiding citizen?

I think I'll go read some more about tractors.

Re: Gun \"rights\"

TB2K,
Spoke to a couple of gun users, hunter and national guard. They didn't agree with you. Thought a shotgun was a better choice in the setting I described. Wonder what others on this board might think.

Also went to the Glaser safety slug site. They said that the bullets will go through boards, beds, clothing, etc, but fragment in a jug of water on the other side of the board. If you miss your target, even the blue glasers are going to go through drywall. Would buck shot go farther???? What about salt?

Re: Gun \"rights\"

Todd,
Buckshot or salt will not go as far,the buckshot and salt is more effective at a closer range than at a longer range.Salt is less effective than buckshot.A lot depends on the "choke" of a shotgun.A full choke will go further than a modified choke. Salt will usally just sting you or burn you bad?,where as buckshot will cause more damage, then again you get into the size of the buckshot and amount of powder in a shell which effects the power a lot as well.
I hope I have not confused you too much.

Re: Gun \"rights\"

I'm already confused these days Hillbilly. Nothing to do with guns and ammo.

Could you load your first two shells with rock salt and a lot of powder? Would the light weight of the salt cause a bigger "spread" but still be enough to temporarily put down your target. Say for a few seconds?? I liked the salt idea because it was non lethal unless it hit someone's throat? But if it knocked them out, then you'd have time to get close with your lethal rounds in case they were needed, and maybe not kill them.
