I have owned this tractor for about 1 year; it is about 14 years old. It started fine last summer. This summer the only way I can get it started is by using starting fluid; if starting fluid is used it starts right up. It seems like the glow plugs are not working.

I removed what I think is the nut that holds the glow plug in place but got concerned that it might cause more problems and I want to use the tractor for mowing now since it starts now!

How do you replace them? Is it difficult?

On my 3054, it may be similar for you,
They are on the right side(as sitting on seat), there are three, they look similar to a spark plug, they have a solid wire connecting all three. Remove the nuts that hold the wires on then remove the glow plugs and install new ones. It wasn't to bad except that it was hard to get a socket on them. I had to grind the shoulder down on the socket because there wasn't much room between the motor and the plug. This should fix your starting problem.
