Ok I'm new been searching for this problem and haven't found it yet so hopping for some help. I have a '65 mf135. It is my grandfather's and I'm trying to fix it up for him. I've obtained the shop, owner's & parts manuals. When the tractor is running the hydraulic/transmission fluid runs out of a hole behind the clutch inspection plate. Is this a seal or gasket possible? Or am I looking at a transmission rebuild? If I can figure out how to post a picture I'll post one.

Here are the photos. In the third picture it is the small hole on the bottom right.

Probably the input shaft seal & bushing/bearing need to be replaced. Not terrrible, but you will have to split the tractor to get to it.

I suppose it also depends on how much fluid leaks out. I assume the hole is there to prevent so much fluid accumulating that it gets on the clutch plate. Transmissions can leak at several places, and an old tractor will leak about a gallon a year before I'd call the problem serious. My Ferguson holds 8 gallons of transmission/ hydraulic fluid, so a gallon is only a 12% per year leak. I add about a gallon of motor oil a year, and a gallon of antifreeze a year too, and a gallon of front end loader fluid a year. So, I consider my leakages are all about in balance ! I don't say these fluid usages are all good, but repairing them is a low priority on my bucket list.

Well when you start it up and drive it it looks like a little flow. If your working with it it will need refilling over the weekend.

G'day does your fergy have multi power?? There is a valve on the front of the trans for the multipower and it has a couple of pipes on it also the bolt that the control lever pivots on have been known to come loose and that allows a fair stream of oil out when it is running. Undo the inspection cover ( the plate with the 4 big bolts) and have a look up inside there the valve will be up on the top of the trans on the L/H/S. You can usually see up in there fairly well and so long as you are CAREFUL you can actually have the tractor running with this plate off and hopefully you might be able to see your leak but as i said BE CAREFUL as there is rotating clutch and shaft accesible with that cover off. If you do find a leak there then youir next step is to split tractor and repair, easy job took me about 3 hours the last one i did

Thanks, no to multi power or diff lock. That was going to be the next thing I was going to try, looking through the inspection plate. I have to put the fuel tank back on. Took it off to degrease. I think my grandfather bought it new. Grease and dirt under tank around valve cover and injectors was so think I had to start with a screwdriver before degreasing. Thanks for confirming my thoughts of looking and the warning.

Ok I have it back together and refilled the trans/hydraulic took the inspection plate off and started it. No drip. Turned it off here comes a constant flow. I look in and it was from the input shaft and retainer assembly.

Now my question is do I have to take the whole transmission apart or can I just split it and replace the seal?

Yes you can just split it. Just a bit of causion change the oil pan gasket when you go back together, ive seen several leak after being split.
