Leaking Cessna hydraulic pump

I have a Cessna hydraulic pump that powers the loader on my John Deere garden tractor. The pump has a slight leak between the two halves of the pump case. There is no gasket between the halves. I was thinking of putting a thin layer of silicon RTV between the halves to hopefuly stop the leak. Anyone think of any problems with doing that?
