leaking coolant from water pump area

Mine also leaks a few drops whenever the block heater is plugged in otherwise it never does. Been that way since I bought it in 2007, but unlike you the heater was installed by the previous owner , not the dealership and of course mine has been out of warranty for ages.

I plug it in maybe 5 times a year at most and I can spare a few milliliters of coolant lol, I stopped worrying about it long ago.

Interesting. This is only the second time I've used the block heater. Last year I noticed some coolant leaking also, about the same time of year; it could even have been the other time I used the heater. That time I found the source to be a loose hose clamp on the top radiator hose. I understand that the heater could increase coolant pressure, but why doesn't it go into the reservoir instead of forcing it's way out?

Nope, heater has nothing to do with a rise in pressure, as a matter of fact, it will reduce pressure by 'cooling" the coolant. The block heater will give a rise in pressure because it's heating the coolant, should still not leak, though. My guess is that the gasket has broken away some how, maybe just a re-tight of the nut, maybe a take out and application of silicone will do the trick, but if it's still under warranty, I wouldn't touch it, you could snap the casing by over torquing, let them handle it.

When I said "heater" I meant block heater. That's the only kind I got. Wish I had a heated cab, but I'd say that's at least 10 years off.

Replaced water pump last year and if i remember correctly one our two of those bolts thread into water passage. Is it possible someone forgot the thread sealer on those bolts? If that is the case just have to remove install the sealer and re-torque. Steve
