Based on the comments herein, I'm changing my practice...the 3 point will be lowered when the work is done and the tractor is shut off for the night.

Thank you all for your comments.

People do stupid things, but I do know of one instance where leaving the 3pt in the raised position actually saved a life. The guy, my dad, had a old dexter that often didnt want to crank. Sometimes had to be rolled off to get it started. Well,I finally got around to doing a rebuild with new sleeves and pistons and the tractor would fire almost as soon as it turned over. Now dad had a habit of leaving the 3pt raised just incase he had to roll the tractor to get it started and this was one of those times he had a set of disc harrows on the back. Now the 3pt would leak down over night so it was sitting on the ground that day. Dad walked up to the tractor without getting in the seat and hit the starter to see if it would turn over. It not only turned over, it fired and took off. The back tire ran over my dad and if the disc hadnt of been in the raised position he would have been cut into. Now a lot of bad things where done before the accident, but it could have been even worse. Dad was bruised as the back tire ran over his chest, but the disc raised before striking him. I dont know how he survived being ran over with the back tire.
