LED Flashlights

I also have a Surefire, an L2. It is a blazing 100 lumens, about 2.5 times brighter than a 4-D Maglight. On low (it has 2 output levels) it will run 18 hours. All that in a 6" ling 1" dia. waterproof aluminium body. Expensive but not much else like it.

Love 'em.

Light is too 'bluish' and I wouldn't want to read by them, but they are the greatest thing to have around 'just in case' because of the long battery life.

When I go deer hunting, I always have a couple in my pack. I use one to walk in and one to walk out. Even a complete idiot would now not to shoot at a deer swinging a flashlight. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Many of the newest LED's have lost the blue hue. Many still "look" like they are blue, only because most people tend to compare them to incandescents, which are yellow in comparison.

Most of the new ones are not blue, but again that will depend on the observer's definition of what "white" is, 6500K or 7500K.

Long, long ago, I used to like Maglites. That was until I eventually had a whole drawer of them that don't work. Then, I discovered <font color="orange">Pelican Products</font>. They have been outstanding flashlights.
Now, like many law enforcement, I really like the <font color="green">SureFire</font> flashlights. I've got the Outdoorsman. It has a neat lens that helps you follow a blood trail. Yes, expensive, but they are too cool. Very hard exterior, seems to repel scratches.

I agree about the Maglites. Not as much about their reliablity as about their beam control. When the light is focused down to a spot, it's not too bad. But when you "spread" the beam it get pitiful.

I have a Surefire 9N, I think that's it, that I keep in one of the cars. Very good brightness and beam pattern. Just hate the non replaceable bulb assembly and the three 123A cells that it uses.

At home around the outside I use a Streamlight rechargable UltraStinger http://www.streamlight.com/stinger-series_specifications.htm. For a bright light inside I use a Scorpian http://www.streamlight.com/scorpion_specifications.htm.

For general illumination I use a TwinTask of one of the other LED lights.

I really like a good flashlight! My wife get tired of me buying new ones all the time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Pelican Recoil lights on your link look interesting. I'll have to look into those.

I have had a 3-D cell Maglite for 20 years with no problems but wearing out the rubber button that covers the switch. I have several AA and AAA Maglites that have had no problems. They do sell spare parts ya know: Maglite Spare Parts

My FIL let the batteries leak in his 2-D cell, and all it really did was to clean the aluminizing off the reflector. The switch was not affected.

A lot of the police around here still like Maglites.
1) They don't get paid that much in the small towns around here.
2) In one nearby town they are not allowed to carry nightsticks since an "incident" a few years ago. They started carrying 4-C cell Maglites to use instead.

Tom, I have purchased 2 LED flashlights at Walmart. The first is made by Garrity and uses 3 AAA batteries and has one LED with a focused lens. I keep it on my belt (firefighter/paramedic) in the supplied case. The useful range is between 20-25 feet. It comes with a red and blue snap on lens and is made of aluminum. It is aprox. 5" long and 1" in diameter. The second light is a Rayovac that has 1 white LED, 2 red LEDs, and a Xenon bulb. This light is in my travel bag so I haven't really used it much. Hope this helps, Bill C
