Do LED lights work in cold weather?

We bought some LED light fixtures for the utility room and love them. Bright instant light and supposed to use a lot less power. Now I'm thinking about putting them in my garage. The fluorescent ones in it now do not work well when it is cold.

Anybody have any experience?

They work as tail lights on cars and trucks so suspect would work in garage.

I've read they work better in the cold.

I just put an LED bulb in the fixture outside of my backdoor, seems to work fine in the cold, i.e. around the low 20s Fahrenheit so far.

I just put a couple of GE '60 watt' equivalents in my garage coach lamps about a month ago. They turn right on and no issues so far. I too am curious to see how they hold up all winter. I also bought a couple of the 'BR30 Flood' style and put them in the house. So far I really like the 'instant on' versus the fluorescents they replaced. These were made by ‘Feit Electric’ and I bought them at Costco. $19.99 for a two pack with a $6 ‘utility instant rebate’ so with tax they probably come out around $7.50 each. I am certainly not going to buy any more fluorescents.

I have used for about a year, the LED flood lights for outside security lighting replacing the RFL 90/120 watt bulbs with the LED 25 watt bulbs. More light and whiter. No negative effects with the weather down to 18 degrees here in Georgia. They have my vote for sure. No much dollar-sucking incandescent RFL's for me.

Thanks for the info guys. After I posted my question I did a google search and found that they are not affected by the cold. But it is still good to hear from people who have tried them.

The only LED issue is with snow/ice, they don't get warm enough to melt it off.

I bought a couple LED shop lights this weekend. Got one up in the basement, and it is great. I bought 2 more tonight, some are going in the garage. I'm tired of changing tubes, seems they don't last long, or the ballasts keep failing.

Anybody seen LEDs in the same form factor as traditional 8 foot fluorescent blubs ? I wonder if I could use them in the same fixture ?
