I installed some LED bulbs in the headlights of my new B2650 and that seemed to help the putrid lighting that comes from the factory...being on a roll, I decided to put some LED bulbs in the tail lights too. Pulled lens off, stuck in an 1156 led bulb, reinstalled lens and checked lights..LED wouldn't light up. I then tried the other side with the same result. After scratching my head for a few, I decided to check the voltage at tail light socket. The sockets were wired with polarity reversed!! I switched the pins at the plug for each tail lamp and I now have working LED tail lamps!!

What's the part #'s you used for headlight bulbs?

Bulb was purchased at Advance Auto Parts and is a Sylvania 7506. The part number on receipt is 7506LEDBP2. It has a round, opaqe cover on end, so you can't see the diode itself. There are better options out there, but this was the best I could find locally, and it is better than the factory 1156 bulbs.

How could the socket be wired wrong. An 1156 bulb has one center contact and the bulb shell is ground. If you switched the pin wiring in the plug the first time power is applied it would blow a fuse. Are you sure it wasn't an 1157 bulb which has dual contacts and a ground.

Actually an incandescent bulb doesn't care which direction the current flows so you won't blow the fuse. LED lights do care but you won't blow the fuse it just won't light.

Actually, if he has an 1156 socket it has one center pin for the single filament bulb which becomes hot when the switch is turned on. The shell of the socket would be grounded to the tractor frame electrical system. If he swapped the wires the hot wire would short directly to the frame when power is applied blowing a fuse. That is why I think he has an 1157 socket and dual filament bulb. Those two wires could be swapped without affecting the socket ground.
The only way an 1156 socket and bulb wiring could be swapped is if the entire light assy. is mounted to plastic and not grounded to the frame.
Plus, if his rear lights are combination tail light and brake light / turn signal he will have an 1157 dual filament bulb not an 1156 single filament bulb.

The rear lights are mounted in plastic and not grounded to frame. The positive lead was run to the outer casing of recepticle instead of center pin, thus LED didn't work. Like Kuboman stated, an incandescent bulb doesn't care which way the juice flows, but a diode is one way!!
