It seems odd to me that the wheel is supported directly on the splines? Straight splines like that have clearance for a slip fit so there would always be movement between the male and female splines. No matter what bolts they use, it looks like a funky design to me with no bearing directly inboard of the wheel flange.

there almost has to be both an inner and outer bearing.?.
Be interesting to see a parts blow up of the complete assembly
this is not the 1st thread where a front wheel left a 4x4 tractor with axle stub attached and certainly could be a safety concern if it were to happen at an inopportune time, at least it does not seem to be a very common type of failure.
