Loretta finally got to try her new shotgun. We had been working around the camp and took a break to shoot some clay birds. She did pretty good too. For practice clay shooting, she wore that left handed shoulder pad especially since she shot about 200 rounds. She really like her shotgun.

The gun has pretty clean lines and is very well balanced. I only had to shorten the stock by 3/8" of an inch. Man, does it shoot good too!

She even managed to hunt down a pesky ground squirrel that was eating her garden. Hmmm...things have changed!

Later on that day Loretta wanted to see what a slug would do. I told you I got some slugs in case that bear came into camp, so she had to try it out. I got one of those 2 gallon Tide laundry soap containers and filled it with water.
She took aim and fired using the improved cylinder barrel.

Look carefully at the shape of the bottle through the shower of water. You can see it is completely exploded out.
Here she is with her trophy.

I was surprised to see the slug go clean through the water of the 2 gallon container to make a hole in the other side too. The recoil from the slug was quite a bit more than from the field loads of bird shot.
She like that and said, "I think this would take care of that bear now."

Here is the clay bird thrower I bought.

In the background are Loretta and Wesley getting ready for practice.

And here are the three of us.

Wes and Loretta completed the California Hunter Safety Training Course last Sunday, a 10 hour class. They both passed and got their certificates and their hunting licenses. Loretta had to get an Upland Game Bird Tag but Wes did not since he is 11. It's not required for a hunter under 16 yrs old. He just had to fill out a State Survey about what he was going to hunt this year.

Next Saturday (Sept 1st) is Dove opener and we are pretty excited about it. We will be shooting over our meadow (the old food plot) where flocks of dove have been visiting.
