Legal Carry ???

My last job in WV had a policy of no guns allowed at work, UNLESS you had a CCW permit. How's that for forward thinking! I commented to the HR lady about it, she said she always carried hers!

In MS, your car is your property, so you don't have to have a permit to carry a loaded gun around with you. Not too much horn honking and finger waving down here!

For the sake of discussion, if you would give me some lattitude.

Inalieanable right to defend yourself.

What if I decide that I will be defended by my German Shepard?

Does that give me the "right" to bring him with me everywhere?

I fully agree with the man that said to effect, your rights end where mine begin.

I guess, in turn, I would ask LMTC, what if you did not want something occuring at your business. Let's say ****. but that is in one of your employees definitions of "pursuit of happiness" or maybe it is in some whacko's "religion". Generally accepted no-go, but hey, there is always someone arguing something I think crazy in court.

Do you think he should be allowed to have **** on your property even though you disagree with it?

Not sure if I am making this too political for the forum or not, if so, I would hope that a Mod would erase it, and I will drop it. But I honestly do enjoy the "debate" of things here, with folks I respect.
Any argument can be carried to any extreme, and that's what the proposition re: **** does. Those terms, Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness, have generally agreed upon values/meanings in our society. Can they be parsed out to extremes if considering the happiness of one person in a billion? Of course. Part of the whole structure of society is dependent on "reasonable people." When a large plurality becomes less than reasonable, structure starts to break down....pretty much as I believe we have witnessed in the past 40 years or so.

Does most, or even a significant portion, of our society agree that a German Sheperd is the most effective means of personal protection? If that were the case, I would probably argue for your right to have your GS with you anywhere you went.

I am backing out of this discussion at this point, as your last example of Pursuit of Happiness has carried this well past a philosophical discussion and taken it to the extreme of absurdity. I acknowledge fully your prerogative to do that, but I choose not to participate.

I guess the bottom line (IMHO) is, the company has the right to dictate policy on their property...no one has a "right" to a job.
For them, it's a liability issue more then a political one. Some guy, being less then discrete or cautious, shows off his carry gun and shoots another. An accident...yes, but when the leeches...I mean lawyers get on to it, they won't just sue the fool who had the AD...it'll be the company too. Also, a company does not need that kind of publicity.
Forward thinking companies, like the one mjfox6 wrote about, have my compliments for trusting their employees. But most companies aren't like that.

I worked for over 20 years for a "company" which didn't allow privately owned firearms in your vehicle or on your person....the military.

Many times (especially on a Monday) I would get to the gate and be waiting in line to get in and remember that I was packing:eek:

I'd get to the guard, tell him I need to swing a "you-eee" to go drop my pistola at the hacienda. I never had any problems...

If I had gone on-base and been searched...FELONY!

Some may say it's "different", but not really. It was my "work". I didn't have to agree, but I had to comply if I wanted to keep my existing paycheck.

Government property, private corporation property...what's the difference, well, besides "Deadly Force Authorization"?

Maybe I answered my own question:eek:

Just chiming in again...this is an interesting post and there really is some good debate going on here!

Getting courtsmartialed versus merely losing your job? Virtually everything about an individual's life is controlled in the military, not so in civilian life. In civilian life, you don't need a pass to go to town.

The carrying comparison isn't valid.

That would be your right, and I certainly respect it.

I do find it interesting that my argument is "absurd" when your position in a nutshell is that you have a God given right to carry a loaded weapon onto my property after I have told you not too.

In my ideal dream world:

I'm on my way to work and realize I left my gun at home (how careless of me). So I show up at the security gate and humbly make my confession. "No problem" says the guard. "Just sign right here" as he pulls a generic hand gun from under the counter. "Don't forget to turn it back in at the end of the day":D

Of course, in an ideal world, Trains wouldn't derail, trucks wouldn't turn over, stuff doesn't get spilled, and I'd be out of a job. Dang!:(

Mike, Ill vote for that !!!

Now my 2 cents.
If I dont want some nut job on my property with his 89 dollar saturday night special in his pocket, I should have that right, its called private property rights (mine)

Whether he is an employee or a visitor, now if hes a good boy & keeps it in his car and behaves himself hes welcome.

Maybe the employer should have all employees sign a waiver.
Some thing like I release xx co from any liabilities which may arise from said person having a firearm in his vehicle while on our property, and post a sign in the parkinglot that by parking here they (the employee) assumes all the risks.

Their rights stop where my property begins, unless they have a bigger gun:D
