I got this auger from the father in law as sort of a freebie in a group of implements he purchased. I was going to use it today on my DX55 Case, and i ran into a problem. I got the lower end links on the auger no problem but i can't figure the top link part. I assumed i remove MY toplink from the tractor and teh auger slides into the spot where my top link comes out. The problem is, the auger portion is slightly wider, so it won't slip i between the ears on the top link mount on my tractor.

Did i screw this all up, or is there a missing part i need or what? If what i was doing is correct, should i just grind off 1/16" or so so it will go in?

Thanks. There is no documentation with the auger.

Mine in a bushhog phd but it does slide right between that top link fitting hole on the tractor and in fact has an inch to spare on each side once it's in place.

I guess you could grind the fitting on the PHD but that doesn't sound right. I think a picture or two may help us.

Pictures would be a good thing, but if it is what I think that it is, it will not hurt anything to grind off 1/16" off of each side. that should give you a little slop to install.

Good luck :)

i don't understand why it wouldnt fit though.....

I do REMOVE my toplink, and the auger boom slides in, replacing my top link, correct?

I guess its possible, since i have never had any attachments there except the toplink, that the factory enamel/paint made the slot thinner than it really is.

Yes - that's how mine works. I too have a Leinback but I don't think that's the model number. Slides right in where the toplink was.

The tractor end of the boom should be similar in size to a typical toplink. The larger models L8000-L9000 appear to have a toplink balljoint incorporated into the tractor end of the boom. My L-7200 does not, but it does fit into the toplink fixture on my tractor. You would probably be safe in grinding a bit off to fit your tractors toplink fixture.

I had to grind some off my PHD also. Now the toplink portion slides in easily, and is a little bit sloppy. Thats ok because hooking up the PHD is a PITA! I'm hoping my Pats easy change helps out with that. Here is a pic of what it looked like "pre-op". No pic of "post-op", but it fits better. (no pun intended...post-op...yuk..yuk..yuk..)

maybe ill grind off a little. My tractor has 172 hours on it, and the top link on it has PLENTY of play in it, so, im thinking the paint on the tractor sucked up the extra space!

Thanks for the help, all.

Probably been talked about a lot - I hang my PHD from a rafter by a chain. Then I back up close and leave it hanging from the chain while I connect eveything. First the side-links, then the top, then the PTO. Only then does the chain get unhooked. Still awkward, but the chain carries the weight.

This auger has a hook on the back on the gearbox (don't know what thats for) and also two 'eyelets' on the boom, i assume to hang it from chain.

Example

See the hook on the back and the 'eye' on the boom?

Fixed it.

Turns out the original bushing or whatever must have gotten boogered up. So, it was cut out, and a new one was welded in, which was about 1/8" too wide. I just too the sawzall to it and cut a sliver off of it. It fits now, and all is well.

Glad to hear it. Please be careful of that auger and pto shaft. I think PHD's have been voted "most dangerous implement" several years in a row. I treat mine like it's a angry snake, that is to say I have alot of respect for it.
