Lenar FS-274
Have a 2004 Lenar FS274-1 (4WD, Manual gear tranny). It has close to 50 hours on it. Been having power loss after the tractor is run for about 20-30 minutes. It basically requires holding the throttle wide open just to idle.

It did this a few months ago when bush hogging. At the time it was 95F+ out and I was pushing it hard. It would run fine for 15-20 minutes, lose RPM's then after a couple minutes go another 15-20 minutes. Noticed some fluid leaking out the injector pump breather plug. Didn't have time to check into it further at the time. I have since used the tractor for moving some dirt, digging a drainage ditch etc. and it never acted up.

This past weekend proceeded to bush hog (about 5 acres) and it starting losing power again after working about 20 mins. Again the outside temp was in the low 90's. It got to where it could maybe go a several feet with a load and it dropped back off again. If I primed the injector pump primer, it would pick right back up, temporarily.

Here is what I have done so far...
Found the injector pump to have too much oil, drained some out and now it no longer weeps out the breather plug. Is it possible for diesel to mix with the oil in the injector pump, as it looks rather thin.

Replaced the sorry Chinese battery, could not handle repeated restarts.

Topped of the fuel tank with fresh diesel and added a healthy dose of Power service supplement (white bottle)

Thought maybe it was the fuel filter, so I have temporarily removed it with no avail.

Checked/removed the air filter, some thing doesn't help much

Noticed one of the vent lines on the injectors on the block was not well crimped. I removed all of the vent lines that feed back to the tank, with no change.

With no load and the fuel and air filters removed, along with the vent lines removed, it will run with no load (in neutral) at 2300rpm for 10-15 minutes then drop back to 1500rpm then pick back up.

This has me completely baffled, again it runs great the first 20 minutes or so when started from a cold condition. Once the engine is up to temp (~180F) it starts the endless cycle. I am close to the 50 hour mark, so I plan on flushing the fluids and see if that helps. Also noticed some debris buildup on the radiator screen, which I will remove, but according to the temp gauge it is not running hot.

Sorry for the novel, but looking for any help!!!

I see where you have posted to my problem. Here are some things to try.

Check your sediment bowl make sure it is clear of debris and check the screen inside your fuel cock to insure there is not any debris there. If you remove your fuel cock you should go ahead and blow out your tank. Inside you probable have a filter on the other end of your fuel cock. If you have a plastic bowl you might observe it collapse if this filter is clogged.

Check your fuel lines to see if they are clear. Small obstructions can cause limited fuel flow. I was told to use a hanger for this??

Bled your fuel system. If your system is sucking air it will cause your tractor to have these symptoms.

Check your fuel system for leaks using dish detergent and water.

Good Luck!!!

This is a diesel tractor, does a diesel still have a sediment bowl? From what I can tell, the fuel has a gravity feed from the tank to the injector pump, with a filter in between the two. I have actually removed the filter to see if it helps, to help avail. Probably still a good idea to pull the tank and inspect/clean it out.

I'll check into the lines and airleaks as well.

Thanks!

It should have a sediment bowl. Try opening and closing the fuel petcock. Mine Kama will stall or almost die while running and then i close and open the petcock to release the rust scale that was stuck in the valve.

OK thanks, I'll try that. I did open and close it, but don't think I tried it while running, if it makes a difference.

If it has a water trap check that. Also.. On some of these chinese tractors I've heard that the fuel valve was made badly.. that is the holes do not line up good.. you may want to see if the valve is starving the system. All it would take is a reduced flow valve, and a piece of trash to do this.

Next check breathing..

The banjo fitting where the fuel line hooks up to the injector pump might have a clogged screen. I would really check the fuel line from the tank also, I have seen a few that the inside of the line seperated and under suction from the pump close the line off, you can't see it the walls internally close. The screen in the tank could be a problem, I fixed one that had a rag in the tank and another that had a glove in the tank and a third, I don't know what it was in the tank looked like crushed walnut shells.

Any luck with this yet? Were you able to locate the sediment bowl?

Where would the water trap be located? This is the first I have heard of this animal, but I am relatively new to the tractor scene.

I'm not familiar with your machine.. but.. this should be an easy task... Put your hand on the line coming from the fuel tank... trace the line to the injector pump... somewhere in that line will be your filters.. and any other traps or charge pumps, if used...
