Let my neighbor borrow my tractor...

Loaned my farmboss chainsaw once. Was returned with an additional new chain, "just in case" they had damaged the original, which they didnt.

Does he need to borrow another or 5 saws? If anyone wants to fab a new trailer hitch, side boards, and mud flaps I’ve got a dump truck for loan.

Loaned a good Stihl Farm Boss chainsaw for a small job and assumed it had been returned to the barn as expected. Six months later, I was looking down into the ravine and noticed something orange in the snow......

Yes, a worker doing a small job--dead tree I think. His chainsaw broke (bad sign, right?) so lent one of mine and pls return to barn when done.

I have bad luck borrowing things. I take care of them like they're my own but they just happen to fail while I have them and I end up paying enough to fix them that I should have just bought my own. Last two things I borrowed cost me a day of labor for a 30min job. Borrowed a friend's PTO auger and the bolts that pin the auger to the right angle gearbox came out while it was spinning, caught the guard and mangled it. I spent the rest of the day fabricating a new (and more robust) guard for it. Borrowed a trailer from the same guy. I had to unload his tractor off it before I could take it, and somehow I managed to break both the ramps before I ever got the tractor off. Spent the rest of the day fabricating new (more robust) ramp attachment points. I don't know why this always happens. But nobody that I ask hesitates to loan me stuff, as it will most likely come back with improvements that I was forced to make for one reason or another.

Sounds to me like he wasn't doing proper maint (I've been guilty of such). That's not your responsibility, but you're an awesome guy for doing that.

Generally speaking I never lend anything out, nor do I borrow. Just too many thing to go wrong.

I sold my JD excavator to a good buddy last year.



I knocked $2000 off the purchase price and took it in machine rental credit.

He dropped off a mini this spring when I was doing yard cleanup around the house and a 300 class excavator later this summer for cleaning ditches.

I would never lend my tractor anyway, but even if I were inclined to do so, I would worry anout them hurting themselves. There is just too much that can go wrong, and my neighbours are all too incompetent wit machines anyway (except for one). In fact, the only one who’s even driven my tractor is my own 21 year-old daughter, and that was only about 700 yards to our other place.

The "neighbor" across the road owns 3 or 4 ? rental properties who knows thats his business . And I could give a rats butt . Throughout the years here and there would ask to borrow high dollar tools / wrenches etc (big stuff) . So one day he gets a brilliant idea to ask me if I would lend him one of my tractors and bh / phd etc . So I about had enough of his borrowing routine and suggested to him " Hey why dont you sell one of your properties and buy a tractor , some tools and equipment" ? I swear I told him exact words . He tells me " I cant do that those bring me in income ". So I told him how I too could have a rental propertie givin me "income" , but decided I dont like to borrow peoples things for my longtime benefit . Nowadays from afar we wave at each other as a courtiesey when see each other from afar . I couldnt be happier . And down deep inside I"am a man that likes too help true people in need but that was enough of his BS .
