When I'm out brush hogging... I try to remember ot bring my cell phone with me... In the event something happens, I have a means to call for help.

Very glad to hear your wife is ok. My wife got thrown while riding in our arena last year... just bruises.

For this reason, we got 2 of those family radio service ( FRS ) radios... they have digital squelch, and up to 2 mile range... no static. If we are at home working on seperate projects, we each carry one.. works great.. especially when i'm out working ont he tractor and she buzz's me for dinner.

Incidentially, our barn has power, but up untill last year I didn't have telephone out there... It was the her getting thrown from the horse that made me run the phone line out there also, and then installed a decent cordless phone, that will work out in the arena.
I also carry my cell phone when I go tractoring.. not perfect ideas.. but better than nothing.

The phone in the barn recently came in handy. I was at work one night, and the wife was cleaning the horse stalls.. her old quarter horse spooked and stepped of fthe concrete slad at the wrong angle, and seperated his hook wall from the sole and took aout a good section of hoof on a rear quarter.. bled like the dickens... luckilly she was able to call an older neighbor who came over and helped her calm down, so they could help the horse... Nice guy.. he got us into horses, and has been teaching (trying to teach? ) us ever since.

In the end, they stipticed powdered it, and it quit bleeding then they wrapped it in vet wrap. I got home later, and the vet gave us pain killer and some bute' for the swelling, and once it wasn't so sore, the vet trimmed the wound a little neater, so the farrier could work with it. Took about 4 months for the old boy to get that hoof grown out again... glad we had the phone...
