I've been reading on a different site about a Walmart knockoff of a Benchmade Bugout knife for $10. Everyone is saying for $10 it is a steal. D2 steel. I'll probably grab one to keep in the Jeep or just to beat the p*ss out of it or not care if I somehow lose it in the woods.

Where did you get this at and what is the brand/name? I really like this knife!
James Sponaugle from Tennessee is the knifemaker. This knife was custom made with me choosing the blade shape and length, steel type, scales and liners. It was patterned after the "Loveless Style Drop Point" shown in his gallery and made with Magnacut steel.

My super cheap and durable every day carry knife. It will need a new sheath soon, and that will likely cost twice what the knife did. Perfect sized for me, and cuts boxes, vegetables and everything else well. I keep it sharp with a honing steel.

This is my everyday carry - Milwaukee Fastback.

My ability to lose a knife is almost legendary, so I quit buying anything nice or pretty years ago.

These are up to around $35 a pop now, which is approaching my limit for disposable/disappearing knives.

I haven't been able to determine what metal they use but it does hold an edge fairly long.

I really take pride in a nice knife. I've always had a knife in my pocket, ever since I was a kid, working on a farm. I frequently travel and I'll always check a bag, so I can have a knife with me. The knife type has changed over the years. As a kid, it was a simple Victorinox Swiss Army knife, Tinker model. Later I changed to a simple lockback knife and then a Puma Stockman. For probably the last ten years or more, I carry a Benchmade custom mini-barrage with S30V steel and orange scales.

I have various hunting knives, starting out with a Buck fixed blade drop point with gut hook. Later moving to a Puma Skinner (one of my favorites), then a friend made me a custom skinner with giraffe bone scales. I like that knife, but it lacks a finger guard, which I think is critical for safety when cleaning an animal. That brought me to having the custom knife made by James Sponaugle to be just the way I want it. The Puma Skinner and the Sponaugle are the only two hunting knifes I use now.

My son has one and uses it regularly on the job, he's a fan. I'm currently using a Milwaukee Razorback which is soon to be lost which is my M.O. I'll try the Walmart one when that happens as the Milwaukee one's are up to $35 now. I'll have to get it in orange so I can see it when I set it down. Camo, green or black just lets me lose them quicker.

I quit clipping a knife to my pocket and carry them deep in my pocket now. I found that the hem of an untucked shirt could grab the pocket clip and pull the knife out of my pocket.

I call these "boomerang" knives. If you plan to beat the snot out of it and don't care if you lose it, you'll have it forever. Even if you lose it, it keeps showing up.

On the other hand, a stag handled special order from Germany that you carry in a pocket with a button could get lost walking to the next room.

So true!

I carry a Kershaw assisted opening (Onion??? I think). Anyway, I have had it for a dozen years and is good enough to do what I need doing for an everyday knife. IIRC it was about $40. Thought it was a bit pricy but I treated myself.

A knife is a tool for me. Can't see every spending more than $75 for one. But each to his own quirks. I like expensive scopes on my rifles, and I can tell the difference.
