Some carvings that I've done. I'm hoping to build my own front door and carve a couple of elk into it when I build my addition.

Remarkable. You are a real artist. Been thinking about trying my hand at an acoustic, but thinking is all I've been able to accomplish so far. Have committed to buying a couple of ukulele kits and building them with my twin grand sons, but those are easy.

Thank you sir!

Pics of two bass guitars I made.
The 5 string is a Walnut top on Maple, with a neck through of Walnut, Maple, and Purple Heart. The neck is Ebony, with Walnut headstock overlay.

The 4 string is a fretless (frets are maple inlay), Flame Maple on Mahogany.

The most difficult part of both was fretting the 5 string.

I will probably never build another - it took quite a while.

Very nice! According to my cousin, adding a jig each build and some experience, they will go together a little quicker. I've always liked that jazzy, smooth sound of the fretless bass.

Barrel vaulted ceiling I did in my house in Oklahoma, All local cedar I got at a local saw mill, had to 4sq it, then tongue and groove it. Had roof trusses built with 2x12 bottom cords and hand cut the arcs with a skill saw.

And some cabinets to match.

Here are some pictures of a kitchen that I had tore out and completely rebuilt. I took it all the way down to the studs, re insulated, wiring ,plumbing, and new Sheetrock. Also moved a couple of walls and re sized 2 doors. I built, installed and finished the cabinets.

Can't wait to see your door. What type wood/woods are you planning to build from?

Probably oak. The harder and denser the wood, the easier it is to carve. I'm not a fan of the look of oak, so there is a little hesitation and I might go for mahogany instead. Walnut is too dark and maple is too light, but also a good wood for carving. I'm still working on sketching out my design. I get close to what's in my head, but then I get lost and the drawing changes from what I'm wanting it to look like.

FWIW, my FIL does most of his solid carved doors out of Alligator Juniper or Rock Maple. These are $15k+ doors in Sedona AZ...
