In .45 cal I own a Sig Sauer Elite, a Sig Sauer Match Target, an FNH Tactical, a Kimber, a S&W 1911, and a S&W Governor. All are my favorites on any given day. I carry the S&W's regularly.

All nice firearms.. Does the match target have the light wood grips, man those are nice..

My springfield amory 1911. That started life as a box stock parkerized gun. I put some money in it since. Wilson ramped fully supported barrel, SA mag well, Solid guide rod, Ambi safeties, custom grips, Beavertail, hammer, Hard chrome job. Videcki trigger, Bomar's etc. In other words I put about another $1000 into the gun over and above the $350 of the original purchase. This gun has had a LOT of rounds thru it in USPSA competition. Still a good shooter though. Of course you can buy guns set up like this now, but you could not in 1991 when this one started life.

I'm in the market for a reasonably priced 1911 in the $1000 range, I haven't fired many of them, I did fire a SIG STX 45 and really liked it, I shot it better than any handgun I own..

The STX is from their custom shop, the slide is tight and moves really nicely, the trigger is also very good.. I'm also looking at Springfield Armory Loaded 1911.. What do you guys have and do you like it.. I'm not looking for a GI model.. I can buy a like new STX for $750, I'm leaning towards the SIG.. I also like that it's made in NH..
Purchased the sig STX 1911 about 2 weeks ago/Still have not fired it yet.

I scored a "new" old Springfield Armory 9mm from the local dealer several years ago. It had went through the SA custom shop with many of the mods you mentioned and came with the box etc. I bought it for only $400. Yep, I got a great deal and I do like shooting it. The dealer told me later that he should not have sold the gun. ooops!

I got rid of my Colt and bought this Springfield; haven't put enough rounds through it to determine the reliability, but like it so far.
