Let's Talk Air Filters........

It hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, but my M7040 manual states that the filters can be washed several times before replacing.

I took a 5 gallon bucket and Dawn dish washing soap and let the filter soak in the water/soap mix for about a half hour. Then hosed it off very well.

It came out a light brown color rather than the pure white of a new one but light passes through it just fine. The washed one is used in place of a new white one when I have a particularly dusty job to do. Afterwards, the white one is put back on.

There is a 1000 hours on the inner filter and it looks like new. Blowing it off with air shows no dust. I'll use the new one that is still in the box someday, maybe.

I have an old tractor that gets very little use. I pulled the air filter to check it and was happy to see that it was "clean" I decided to tap it out on the concrete and lots of dirt came out and it kept coming out. I used compressed air and was happy I got it clean. I put it back in and for some reason I decided to check the canister. I pulled it back out and looked inside the canister and saw some dirt. So, I reached in to wipe out the dirt and got more dirt. I found a big dirt clod. I tried to pul it out but it would not come out. It extended into the breather tube of the canister. I finally got it out. It was a great big mud-dobber nest. It was restricting 95% of the air flow.

If you've got a NAPA dealer around, they have all the filters for the B3200. That's where I'm buying all my filters for my B3200 from. Searching on the NAPA website and you plug in the Kubota B3200, this is what it returns for filters.

In combination with an outerwear over my filter I usually remove and blow clean the air filter at least every 30 days. I do keep a spare filter on hand just for in case but so far haven't installed a new one in anything for years. Just blow them clean inspect with a flashlight and put a clean outerwear on.

$50 for an inner filter ??. I'd hate to know what the outer filter cost.

The inner filter is usually the more expensive of the two, as it's not changed often and may cost more to manufacture.

I buy filters from the dealer and NAPA for oil and transmission in most cases. The Donaldson air filters for the tractors are cheaper to buy from Everythingtruckparts.com they have the outer filter for the 4000 series Deere for $23.20 and the inner filter for $19.07. That is about half of the dealer price.
