Let\'s Talk Sprayers One More Time...

Can we discuss sprayers one more time?
I've got an itch to get myself a sprayer.
I've searched all the previous sprayer threads, and participated in recent threads.....but I still want to learn more....'cause I ain't a bright sort of guy and I need all the brain power I can bum.
1) I have a mighty mite BX2200 and a measly 3 acres. Got about 800 ft of overgrown fence row I'm slowly killing off with roundup (I have unlimited supply of free Ag-grade Round-Up concentrate- pours like corn syrup - from wonderful neighbor).
Also would like to help this generous neighbor with his own de-weeding needs. Other than fence row, I have the normal round up needs for around the house - along 400ft driveway, around 45 or so trees, etc, etc..
2) Don't want to invest big bucks, but I do want a quality unit.
3) 25-30 gallon tank, give or take, is probably good 'nough.
4) From what I've learned, seems like an ATV sprayer is all I need. Are there any 3PH models out there for under ~$250 if I go that route?
5) Don't need boom, but might one day...so I want to have ability to add 10 ft or so boom. If mosquitos are bad this year, I may want to do a fair amount of insecticide spraying with a boom so we can enjoy the outdoors in the late evening.
6) Best brands? Best pumps? Any lemons to stay away from?
7) Any preferred internet vendors to visit?

Thanks again for all I learn through this site!

Re: Let\'s Talk Sprayers One More Time...

Get yourself a sprayer. They're quite useful. I have a 25 gallon tank with an electric pump. One of the advantages is I can throw it in the bucket of the tractor or I can put it in the utility wagon behind my lawn tractor. I just have power connectors on both tractors. It sprays just as well as my neighbor's 3PH version, as far as I can tell.

I don't have a boom, but could easily add one. I think I paid something like $175 for it - it wasn't very expensive. Don't know what the brand is, but it has a ShurFlow pump (which is really common). I've used it for several seasons, no problems at all.

Free Roundup! Wow! That stuff is *expensive* (I pay around $100 for a gallon of super concentrate). Quite the nice neighbor you have there /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif...

Re: Let\'s Talk Sprayers One More Time...

i bought one from northern tool, and have used it for about 10 years, 15 gal tank, and electric pump. sprays fruit trees, and rose bushes, i also found an old one and use it for my herbicide spray, i dont have to clean out the tank to go from herbicide to orchard spray. worksok, i have seen them art the various tractor stores, tractor supply, central tractor, bought mine from northern tool. works well, no hassles so far.

Re: Let\'s Talk Sprayers One More Time...

I have the 15 gallon unit from Tractor Supply. I put it in the FEL and connect it up to the battery. No spray boom (yet) just the wand. I do most of my spraying from the seat of the tractor. I have 3.5 acres and 15 gallons of spray (either roundup or bug spray) is usually enough for all my spot/tree/fence line spraying. I would like to add a boom for broad area spraying - wouldn't be too hard to hang it on the 3 point and leave the tank up in the FEL.

Re: Let\'s Talk Sprayers One More Time...

I have two sprayers one with boom and one without. Both are 15 gallon units. One for herbicides and the other for fruit tree spray. One is a pull behind on wheels and the other is one I just mount on my ATV. Both are great... but I wished I would of purchased two bigger ones as my needs seem to grow and grow for the use of them and 15 gallons don't go far.

150 fruit trees suck up lots of spray. I have thought about getting a three point hitch unit that is a platform and just setting a 55 gallon drum on it....

Re: Let\'s Talk Sprayers One More Time...

Racechaser,
I live in the big city of Lakeland, just a mile south of False River...20 mi or so NW of Baton Rouge. But, I'm typing this week from Chattanooga, Tn. We're here visiting family - the boss and I both grew up in Tn - we both work in the chemical industry in S. La. just as I see you do. I love the mountains of East Tn, and I love the people and culture of Louisiana.

All,
Looks like there's no bad experiences with sprayers. Looks like the ATV sprayer is the way to go for me...just gotta select a tank and pump size that gets the job done. I was just looking at some sprayers at the local Northern Tool store yesterday. Pa inlaw and I are headed out later this AM to look for him a new box scraper for his old Ford Jubilee and me a new sprayer. Pa inlaw and my wife are out at the shooting range right now....I guess I'd better shape up and fly straight since she's out sharpening her shooting skills! Maybe this is not a good time to ask for $$ for a new sprayer?!

Have a good one!
