Sadly, the corner hardware stores are disappearing under pressure from big box stores.

I have a Simmons scope that was broke but was one of those things where I bought it fairly cheap because I wanted to set up another gun eventually. Well, a year passes and I go to put the scope on and it makes a noise (something is broke inside). So I check the paperwork and Simmons has a lifetime warranty. Call them up and in order for them to honor the "lifetime" warranty I need to fax them the receipt:confused:

Since I didn't keep the receipt they will not warranty their product. But for $80 or so they will repair it for me:rolleyes:

I will never buy another Simmons product.

I have a Leupold NWTF scope right now that I am thinking of putting on the NWTF Remington 870 Express Super Magnum for a fun turkey gun:)

Unless something's changed, all Leupold scopes are made in the USA.

I know that's what the box that all their products come in states, but I think there's a high percentage of the parts that have to be American made before they can tout "Made in USA". Hopefully ALL of Leupold's optics are made here.

I'm really happy with them. I think for them to be able to compete with the likes of Nighforce, Trijicon, Unertl or Swarovski (among other quality optic makers) they aren't pimping out too much of their work. Of course, I'm speculating. If anyone else can provide evidence they are, please post!

You know, it's kind of like Tasco. Back in the day, Tasco made great products, but today, not so much. They've pimped out all or most of their work to China.

I will say this though, a lot of "bad scope" reports come from knuckleheads that put $30.00 (arbitrary dollar amount) Wally-mart scopes (the cheapo ones) on their large caliber rifles and expect them to hold or maintain zero....cracks me up!

You mean the scope for a bb gun won't work on my 270:confused: :D

I figure it this way. Plan to spend at least as much on the scope as you spent on the rifle. That's a starting point...

Good glass simply costs. Good glass will be clear, and gather light really well too. It will not fog as easily. It will hold up to rough handling too(well, that's more the package than just the actual glass...) This is not just for rifle scope, but for camera lenses, spotting scopes, binoculars, microscopes etc.

I can tell you after spending hours on microscopes, you'll be glad you have good glass too. The same, making an early morning shot in inclement weather...

You know, this could morph into a very good post about "companies that have done the right thing" or "companies that treated me right". It's nice to hear about those things, and sad that it's not more common.
I had to call PIAA, the light company because I lost one of the plastic black rock guards from my off road lights.
The guy said "no problem". One came about 4 days later. Free of charge or shipping. THAT'S customer service.

No, and the other way around too. Your .270 recoils to the rear. BB guns and pellet rifles typically recoil forward. Yes, it is very minor. But, as the piston moves, it jars the scope just a little bit.

That's why there are scopes just for air guns.
