Thanks for all the advice guys. I have 11 more posts to put in, then I will start stretching the wire and putting on the rails. Not sure how quick this will come together. I work in a Nuclear Power plant and we will be starting a shutdown (outage) on Sunday. One day off per week is not going to allow much progress. But it will get done......;)

I suggest getting the wire exactly right (smooth curves) & then put the boards on aligning them with the wire's horizontal runs.

Hey, I've been working on mine for about 6 months now. As most of my projects, "it's a work in progress".

That's what I found, the more fence I built the better I got at building it. So I guess you should start someplace that is not real conspicuous and develope your technique or make your mistakes however you wnat to call it. We are going to insist on pictures to see how our advice worked out:confused2:

Yeah, and stoopid me ... I started at the main/ front gate! By the time I'm deep into to swamp, the fence in there will be a work of art nobody will ever see :laughing:

I will not leave this stretch until it is right. :thumbsup: I believe the rest of the fence will go quicker. It will be cedar posts with the mesh wire. Just hope to have it all done by early summer. My motivation starts going down quick when we start hitting 98 to 105....:(:(

drop the posts in, and then come back with a chain saw, or circlr saw or like. and cut the tops off of each post. say 4 feet off the ground. to get even post height that rolls with the hills on property.

=========
if ya want a constant level of fence and not going with the hills of the land.

as far as strings, transit or laser levels. forget all 3 of them. Water Level quickly made, cheap, and easy to DIY.

DIY: Water Level Gauge

either buy a couple things of duct tape (gray tape) or have a second person holding the other end. as you go down the posts and marking with a pencil were the boards need to go. and how much you need to chop off of a post.

Thanks. I've heard of them but never used one. I'll give it a try.......

Laser level is the way to go, assuming the ground is level. If the ground has any ups or downs to it, the tops of the posts all being the same may not look so good.

Exactly right..................Keep the top of each post the same distance from grade and it will look good...............
