Lever Hydro vs. Pedal Hydro

/ Lever Hydro vs. Pedal Hydro #21
Some of you are assuming kids intuitively already know how to drive.............

When I was growing up back in Georgia, my dad found an old Longlife riding mower.
it had a 2 gear transmission on a chain drive. It had a go pedal.

You press the pedal and you go!

he thought that was safe so if I fell off or was about to hit something- I just pulled my foot back.. I did not know how to drive and he was right...It worked good..

I compare than to a pedal HST..
If you try it, you will like it..
Of course today's HST is way better than that old 3HP, 20 inch cut longlife!!!
it had hard rubber tires and little traction. BUT man did I wear it out!!!

I like the gear drive tractors the best- put them in the gear, and their speed remains relatively the same going up or down hill. Clutch/brake pedal releases the power and applies brakes. Couldn't get any simpler or safer, but harder to change speeds or have infinitely variable speeds.

I have no experience with foot operated hydros, but with my 682 one hand is on the lever, the other on the wheel almost all the time. A lot of people put the steering wheel spinners on these tractors just for that reason. It's not exactly the safest thing, I would have to think foot operation of the hydro would be safer. If one had to turn and regulate hydro speed on slopes, I could see where the lever operation could be downright dangerous.
