That depends on the laws in your province. I really doubt a license is required.
Suggest you ask your dad or owner of the farm, if the farmer isn't yr dad.

Be really careful on public roads. I hope your tractor has a seat belt and ROPS.

Hey Glover,

I don't know how the Liability Laws are in Canada. But for liabilities sake, I would make sure about the licensing requirements and at least know the rules of the road for operating motor vehicles. In America, if you caused an accident or injury to another motorist, then the Liability would most likely shift to the owner of the tractor or the Adult that issued you the work instructions.

Liability Lawsuits here in America, can run into very high dollars and might even put your Parents or property in jeopardy.

Have a nice day,
Joe

Here in the states if you have that SMV placard in place it's up to them to slow down. But I still would not want to end up "dead right". /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hey Mike,

I remember back, when I worked on the farm, back in the 60's, that we drove our tractors on the road everyday, to get to the different fields. It was pretty much common place to do so, but there was very little traffic back then. With traffic on the roadways so much now, I sure am glad that i don't have to do that anymore.

I do wonder what a good Lawyer could do with a case of, a terrible traffic accident involving going around a tractor.

Have a nice day,
Joe /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't believe a license is necessary especially if you are the child of the owner of the equipment. In fact at 16 in Minnesota you can drive semi without the Class A license as long as your dad owns the rig. You can haul grain to the elevators and back to the farm. You can even drive direct to the terminals. However, you would be liable if you were in wrong in an accident.

There was an accident here locally a year or so back where someone passed a tractor, pulled out right into oncoming traffic, and caused a huge accident involving both cars and the tractor. Tractor driver was killed as his tractor was pushed of fthe road by the 'passing' car trying to get back int he lan while still alongside the tractor.

As I remember, the 'passing' car was the party charged.. still.. didn't help the tractor owner any.

I run my tractor down the road a couple miles to do some mowing. I have the SMV plaque on the back of the tractor, as well as having 2 of them on my mower.. one on each edge. Hazard blinkers, and headlamps on the tractor while I'm on the road... seatbelt ON. So far all drivers I've encountered have been courtious, including law enforcement.

I'm not sure if they are just being nice.. or if they are just used to tractors on the road. ( In the county I live in, the county maintains the road sides and simply drives the tractors to location to mow.. so you see quite a few largish tractors and mowers going down the road.. same make and model as mine.. So I might be getting 'accidental' courtesy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )
