So, how long are your electric fence chargers lasting?

The solar ones I have never had make more than 2 years--the cell usually give out.

I just replaced the electric one for the horse pasture. The last one was a redman that was install 5-6 years ago. The voltage had dropped to where it was a weak tickle--I check the grounds, all good and was measuring the voltage at the terminals. Replaced it and I am getting a good shock.

I am just trying to decide if I am getting the normal lifespan out of these.:)

I don't have any of the solar ones but all of mine are old (10 to 15 years )and still make me jerk when I get into them by mistake!

I don't have any idea what a normal lifespan is, but my 1-Joule Hol-Dem Fencer has been in service since 7/3/95.

We get about 8-10 years out of ours. Good grounding lengthens the chargers lifespan. Letting weeds grow up and touch the fence reduces the chargers lifespan.

Good grounds and lightning protection are key.

My neighbor has a couple that are at least 15 years old.
They are made by ParMak

Most of the time it's the fuses that blow
My oldest one is 6 years old

I have a 6v and it was used when I got it, and its been working fine for me 6 years now.
I do have some batterys that I swap out and I put a small solar panel (the ones for a deer feeder) to trickle charge the battery, that set up works great for me.
