Lift arm ball joints frozen on shaft.

Still won't budge! I put a air chisel to it to try and loosen it. Any ideas? Thanks

Finish the cut on the side towards the tractor and it should come loose. If that doesn't work. I would start another cut on the opposite side.
I don't know what you are cutting with, but I would HIGHLY recommend an angle grinder with a thin wheel (if you aren't already using one). MUCH easier than a hacksaw.

Yep, finish the cut on the tractor side. An angle grinder and a slicer wheel or a die grinder with a cut-off disc (which is what I would guess you used since you mentioned an air hammer).

Got to grind more. You will know when it pops loose with the hammer and chisel:thumbsup:

If you get it slitted all the way through, is should fall off. If you are worried about messing up the shaft, dont quite grind all the way through, then use a chisel like a wedge and give it a few pops, you will see it when it pops appart. The cut line will expand. She will pull off by hand then:thumbsup:

Have had to do a lot of bearing races this way

X2 - I've done the same thing many times and it works every time. You just have to be careful not to grind too far when creating the slit in the ball. When using the chisel, make sharp blows with the hammer and the ball will eventually split.

Thanks for all the help. I used a die grinder, hammer and chisel, 2 pipe wrenches, air chisel, heated it up, and finally, it broke!!!

That ball and sleeve look like it was turned on a lathe and is one piece. I have no idea where to find that piece. I might be able to locate the ball and sleeve seperately and then tack weld it in place? Don't know what else to do.

I have posted some pictures so you can see "our" completed job!!

If I had to do it over again, I would have waited for my better half to get home and just have her Nag it off!

Many wives are good at "busting balls" so it just might have worked.

A new ball well not stay in place. Best to cut the end off and get a weld on end. All farm stores have them.

LeeJohn, I took your advice and had it welded. It is all back together now and I am good to go, thanks to the advice and help of the guys on this forum. I have posted a couple of more pics of the completed work.

Oh, I also had him weld on a sleeve to the ball itself because the other one was like that and I could not find one.

They haven't broken yet. The welder said the rod he use was a high dollar rod. He was an old time welder with his own one man shop. But...........if I were to get the other one welded, I would not use him. The end is a little crooked. But.............

Im good to go now. Thanks for the advice.
