OK, spent the afternoon pulling apart the lift cover to see if the pin/cam was worn. Yep, the pin was worn, almost 50% gone!

Pulled cylinder, and put new oring and backup leather in it. Got yoke off (after a bunch of messing around), spring and spring carrier.

Could not figure out how to get draft control rod out with rockshaft in. Took bolt and washer off one lift arm and it slid right off. Pushed rockshaft out the other side by hand (thought I would have problems getting it out, but not). Then the rocker/cam was stuck there and could not figure out how to get all the parts out. Started to take quadrant off and that is where the trouble started. When I unbolted the quadrant from the lift cover, the control shaft moved enough to get all the parts out of the cover. But, in my messing around I broke a bolt on the touch control and broke a portion of the part the touch control lever bolts on to.

So here is the problem. I cannot get the control shaft to budge out of the part the lever bolts on to. It looks like these and the felt are still available? Should I just sacrifice this part to get the control shaft out so I can replace the pin?

Also, the pin was worn through the "middle" and ran over the entire surface of the rocker/cam. It did not leave a witness mark as to wear. Should I replace the cam also? Can a person still get that part?

unless it is an optical issue with my eye or screen.. I'd almost bet that cam has been welded up and reground before. it looks good. unless you see wear marks on the extreme edge of it.. I'd let it ride. you will pick up plenty of resoloution on that cam pin. PS.. I usually see those worn at the end.. maybee that one has been replaced?

as for the broke tension flange. you can get a new one.

note.. it has a keyway. at this point split it with a die grinder to save the shaft, split it with a chissle.. get a new one. and cork disc... add some never seize tot he shaft when you put it back together..

Thanks Chris! Chisel coming out later tonight... :D

I got a new friction disc and cork coming today. Should be able to get it all back on the tractor and put the friction disc on when it arrives.

Does anyone put anything on the lift cover gasket (like Permatex #2 or Ultra Gray)? Or since it is not a wet seal, just the gasket and call it good?

Thanks!
Chris

I started to do that same thing when I did mine last year. I really wanted to pull that arm out of the whole assembly and hammer a new pin in there, but I could not for the life of me get the armature for the quadrant out of it's hole. I finally just put a hardened bolt into the hole.
I didn't put any rtv or other sealer on the gasket, just the gasket itself. I was able to take it back off and reuse it when I had to get back under the lid.
I hope you get it all back together alright!

Well, got it all apart tonight. It fought me every step of the way. Got the air chisel out (cause I was out of cutting wheels for the die grinder). Got the friction plate off and could not get the woodruff key out. Fought that for an hour and then fought getting the control shaft out of the quadrant. Seems the quadrant tube is bent. Arrgghh!

Now all I need to do is get all the gasket off the cover and the center section. Seems some brainiac decided they need to coat both sides of the gasket with a sealer.

Question...I tried a bit to hammer the pin out (using a socket for support) but no go. Tried to heat it up, but no change. Should I press it in with a hydraulic press or just keep hammering?

Your pin must be stuck worse than mine was I used a vice, socket and a short bolt to press it out. I would think hammering on it might make it harder to get out go with the press.

no goop on the gasket. it's a dry seal to keep dust out. orings at the tubes handle the seal. adding glue makes it harder to take off the next time..

try to turn the pin with a vice grip.. otherwise tap it out backing up t he thin metal behind it carefully.

Brilliant! Sometimes a guy is too close to the forest to see the trees... Used the vise and short bolt trick. Really had to crank on the vise and the POP! Thought I had broken the casting, but the pin just finally popped out. Pressed the new one in with the vice, and reassembled the cover. Tried to adjust the valve setting, but without the new friction disc and lever installed I am guessing. It does not look far off though.

Scraped and cleaned that gasket off the center housing. After dropping a couple pieces of gasket in my 10 hour old UTF, decided to drain the center section, clean and refill. Now is the time to get the sludge out!

Think I am going to take the lift arms off to reinstall the cover. That should make it a bit lighter....

Glad that worked for you yea that gasket on mine was the hardest part of the job. I think Mine was put on with epoxy I got the last of it of with a single edge razor blade scraper. Before putting the cover on get 4 bolts that will screw in holes and cut the heads off they will help line the cover up and keep the gasket in place. Did anyone tell you NO POOK ON THE GASKET? :)
