I am planning to do some work on the external components on my 3 point hitch and the assosciated lift mechanism but can find very little help in either the basic operators manual or the (otherwise) comprehensive workshop manual.

I cannot get my 3 point hitch to lower enough to get my single leg subsoiler deep enough into the ground. When I took a closer look the left side (without the winding handle) levelling box is wound fairly well up and welded. I cut the weld with a grinder to find what I suspected... the thread has previously stripped. I could re-weld it lower down but that might cause me to loose higher settings in the future so I ordered a new levelling box. I have actually ordered another hand cranked one as they seem to have longer travel and the adjustment may well prove useful. I tried to fit it yesterday but while the lower bolt came out ok the upper pin that holds the knuckle (universal joint) into the end of the lift arm appears to be seized in position. I would like to remove the lift arm so I can take it into my workshop and get some proper force on it. Can I simply undo the big bolt that looks like it attaches the lift arm to the end of the lift shaft and then withdraw the lift arm off the lift shaft splines?

Also, both my two bottom links that attach via ball joints onto pins on either side of the lower middle part of the rear axle (not the end of the link where you connect an implement) haven't seen any grease for many decades and now have a lot of play in them. Is the play more likely to be in the pin or the ball and are either of these parts replaceable?

Yes & yes. Remove the screw from the rock shaft and tap with a brass hammer. There's a master spline in there so you don't have to worry about getting it back into proper location. Do a google search of lift arm swivel ball and you'll find as many as you want.
