Lifting Heavy cement blocks

Looking into using some 6' x 2' x 2' blocks for a retaining wall, and I am told they weigh around 3400 lbs each. My question is, if I do this and need to rent some equipment What would be best thing to use?
I would get the area ready with my tractor, than rent something or if needed hire someone to move them in place.

Sounds like a job for a wheel loader like the Allis Chalmers 545 that my neighbor has. Not a job for a CUT/FEL. Need construction size equipment to do the job safely.

The problem with either of those is you can't "set" the block down. You have to slide it into place. So, less than ideal IMO.

I would say an excavator of suitable size with a thumb would be the most flexible.

I can set them down with a skidder/lull/FEL/ etc.....

A thumb would destroy the face of them.

I appreciate all the feedback, and view points. I can see that dealing with the weight of these blocks not only creates the need for special equipment, but also will demand a proper base structure. I feel less guilty about procrastinating over this project as it must be done properly and professional help is in order. I put in a wall using landscape timbers in the 80's and it has served well, but talk about an ANT magnet!! I get sick of the constant battle with these creatures.
I am looking to eliminate the planter and push the entire wall back eight feet to allow a larger area at the lower level.

If you are pushing it back up the hill, it looks like you will only need about a three foot high retaining wall (just judging from the photos). If my assumption is correct then why not use the small precast retaining wall blocks that can be moved by hand. Someone on TBN just did a very nice job using those things and they are available at box store home centers.
