why does my lighting volt light stay on all the time? is that a charging issue or what? thanks

Welcome to TBN & the forum bronco2. Simple answer - your system is not charging. The reasons are just a few. Look in your owner's manual and see what it says. Most likely - a problem with the alternator or with the battery. Check that the ground wire off the battery is in good shape and where it connects to the frame is not corroded. Take the battery to a "battery store" and have it checked. Around here - I would suggest Les Schwab.

i have a brand new battery in it. i will check the voltage in a bit and the ground cable. thanks for the help sir

check the ground. all good there. at 1500 rpm's it is putting out 15.1 volts.

Well, it's over charging then, which can ruin your battery if you run it for long period of time.

It's either a bad wire somewhere to the regulator or the regulator itself is not right.

What did you look for? If you're testing the regulator, is the alternator continuously charging the battery at above 15 volts? It shouldn't exceed 14.5 volts for normal charging. Recommend changing out the alternator.

Did you check the voltage at the battery and not the alternator lug?
