Lightning and cows

   / Lightning and cows #41
My Dad had a veterinary practice in Michigan, and would get calls about lightning strikes on animal. Most were cattle, because it was mostly dairy in the area. Not much could be done other then treating the wounds as you would burns, but the nervous system damage wasn't really treatable. Sorry you lost your bull.

Hmmm, never heard the four legged thing before.

You should take short steps, to minimze the diffrence in potential on the ground, if you ever at big electrical fault, and the ground is being energized. Electrical substations are supposed to use the exact size stones in the yard, though some don't.

The resistane of the ground varies, how dry it is, type of soil, gravel, and size of gravel.

Farmers can be the worse for grounding. That is one reason they so many problems with stray voltage. They are the self reliant type, which I respect. But you need to learn the right way to do things. What seems small to you, may have a reason.

The code even says which way to wrap a wire around a screw, to tighten it correctly.
