Hi guys & Gals,

I've read lots of posts about new tractor purchases in the past year. Now that the honeymoon is over for many of us, how do you like your tractors?
How have the dealerships been with support, maintenance/warranty issues? How well have your tractors been performing? Have they been all that you have expected?
Would you still buy that tractor all over again? Any problems with attachments/implements? Overall, what has been your new tractor experiences? Just curious.

I bought a hydrostat TC35D in June of 2001. The tractor has had some minor problems and one major problem with the PTO Brake failure. The tractor itself is pretty awsome. The service from both the dealer and NH customer service has been very poor. I actually had to with-hold payments until I was able to get some issues addressed.

The biggest complaint I have is the PTO Brake. I don't know if they are on all hydrostatic tractors, or if NH sees this as a good idea. After a major failure (broken PTO Brake) and what would have been over $1,000.00 repair if it had not been under warranty, I don't see this as an improvment. I have been told that I need to install an external PTO slip clutch on my PTO when I brush-hog. I would think that a modern machine costing that much would have the engineering to handle any and all forces from attachments. It would have been much better to eliminate the brake and let the PTO come to a stop on its own.

Bought my TC18 in May 2002

Love it!

Dealer has been fantastic!

The rear axle had a small leak that they came out & fixed under warranty. I've done all the PM myself.

If I was buying today, I'd probably spring for the TC24D, It wasn't available when I bought mine.

Overall, the tractor performs work much faster than I had imagined.

I bought my TC45 (not a D model) almost 2 years ago - I've had no problems with it that I didn't cause (repairs due to carelessness) and I would definitely buy it again - but from a different dealer - I haven't had any horror stories with him like some here - but I also haven't received the service that most here seem to get. He doesn't do on-site work at all - and if you don't take it to him, he charges quite a lot to pick it up.
I'm really happy with the tractor - it was certainly the right size for me - any smaller and I would've lacked the power I need - any bigger and I wouldn't have been able to get into the spots that I need to squeeze into. It's the reason I only bought a 5' brush hog - it fits between the tires and will go through any spot I can get the tires through. (we're talking lots of trees close together)

I have had some minor problems on my TN but I also had one of the first ones sold so it takes some time to get all the bugs out. Anyways, the tractor is over 3 years old and is currently at the shop getting a short traced down for the rear 12V power point. Won't cost me a dime because my dealer is fixing it to help me out. I have had nothing but great experiences with New Holland as well as my dealer. I will buy another from them again but in a larger class. Take care.

Like the others we have had a few minor problems. We use this tractor almost daily but we have the luxury of others as well. With that said our tc35 is really a great tractor. It is very handy, the loader is great, have not had any problems or complaints w-it,lifts round bales no problem,3pt,p.s. and 4wd are great,We are most pleased with its fuel consumption,it is very easy on fuel, most of the work it does is fairly routine and light-good tractor, easy to use,comfortable-

I have been very happy with my TC40D. I find it to be a very capable unit. It has done just about everything I have asked it to do.

Fortunately (thanks to this site) I did all my research BEFORE buying, so I knew what problems to expect. In fact, just about everything that has gone wrong with the Class III boomers has, in fact, happened to mine. But, I knew what to look for and how to fix/work-around the issues. My expectations were set and have been met or exceeded.

My dealer has been very good - this being said without having had warranty service done since I've owned it. I did have them do some warranty work and modifications BEFORE I purchased it (it was slightly used - 6 months, 31 hours) and they did all of this very competently. I have spoken to my salesman several times since taking delivery and he always seems happy to hear from me.

All my implements that I bought are used, except for the front end loader - for all around use, I couldn't see owning a tractor without one. The quick-attach bucket and pallet forks are a dream-come-true for my needs. In fact, I use the forks more than the bucket for moving hay bales, logs, stumps, and firewood (I palletize it now). But when I switch between the two, it takes less than 30 seconds, including hopping off the tractor to latch and unlatch the two levers.

I am surprised by how much I like the HST. I was pricing new units and specifically wanted a shuttle-shift - I hated every HST I drove and I drove them ALL. But, my dealer and I negotiated a price I couldnt walk away from and I figured I could learn to live with it. Now, I wouldnt want to have a tractor without it. The biggest benefit I find is safety with loader use - I can creep to the edge of a ravine to dump brush, have one foot on the brake and the other building reverse pressure without ever disengaging the drivetrain (kind of like the Subaru Hill-holder Clutch.) Plus, with the precision loader work, like picking up pallets and large log sections, it is easier to creep forwards and backwards for me. I probably wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it, but it's nice.

I haven't used any PTO attachments yet, so I can't speak to PTO brakes, but (being forearmed with knowledge) I'm going to be cautious with my use.

In sum, I would buy my tractor all over again. I would have had a couple things done before it came home - cooling bypass, thermostat modified, and auxilliary FRONT lighting (headlights are almost useless with FEL). But, yes, I feel I made the right decision for me.

I bought my TC29D in April of 2000. I have about 280 hours on it now and it has served me well, even beyond expectations at times. I would like to have gotten a FEL when I got the tractor, but at the time I could not afford it, so I have no regrets. I've had a few minor problems and the dealer as taken care of them. It's out of warranty now (except the extended drivetrain warranty, which will expire in about 2 months), but so far so good!

Mark, have you ever driven Studebaker with the hill holder clutch? Studebaker had it back in the '50s./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
