Thanks. Yes, Mitsubishi engine equipped. I have in inquiry in to the distributor/dealer and I told him that I suspected the glow plugs were not functioning properly as well - he suggested I look it over and I did, all in plugs in tight and nothing missing. It being new, I'm disinclined to do the work myself to troubleshoot the machine. I've tried cycling the glow plugs on for as many as 5 cycles before trying a cold start with the same results shown in the video.

Nothing like as cold here as upstate Cfy7. It's been chilly here, down in the teens at night, but it doesn't seem to matter if it's cold or hot, still starts poorly.

This is from the New Holland guys and it sounds worthy of attention. I've notified the distributor and hope he will look into it - I can check it out myself ( I will look at the filter, for example, and check the torque on the injectors, but anything else goes on LS.

"If there is air in the system it either won't start or will start and run rough with white smoke until the air is gone. The air should be gone after a minute or less of operation. Unless you have a leak then it should be OK after the initial start up.

I have heard of loose filters causing persistent air leak problems. I would think that would also cause a noticeable fuel leak, but maybe not if it sits a long time between uses. I have seen spin on type filters develop pin holes in the casing causing air leaks. In that case the pin holes were caused by a partially blocked filter flexing the case under acceleration creating small stress cracks. That was on a B series Cummins."

The dealer agrees with me that is likely an air leak. Before I drive the tractor down 40 miles of mountain roads, as he asks, I'll give the likely culprits a look - bleeder line, injectors, fuel filter.

My machine starts cold with limited rpms.

i think this is the nature of the beast

plugged in rpms come up faster.

160 hrs

I also noticed after 100 hrs they work better.

Well, down to the dealer/distributor for a checkup and possible fix. The tractor had been sitting on my trailer for a day and a half without starting and the dealer asked if it would act up if I started it right now. I assured him it would, as it always did after a day or so of sitting unstarted, regardless of the temp. Wouldn't you know it, it cranked up and ran immediately - better than two or three of them on the lot. PITA! I left the tractor for a couple of days and he let it sit and started it in the cool of the morning but each time it was perfect.

The only difference between the shop and my place is 3600' (I'm at 3890' and he's at 188'). I picked the tractor up, it started and ran beautifully as I put it onto the trailer. I got some cetane booster and put the recommended amount in the fuel and drove home. When I got home I started it to back it off the trailer and it smoked just a little and ran okay, but it had only been an hour since first start. Next morning I started it again and got white smoke and crappy 30 second run. Same thing just this morning. Simply has to be too much fuel for the thinner air up here.

I asked the dealer if he could talk to LS and see if there is a possibility of an injector pump adjustment (I sure don't see one) that can be made to reduce slightly the fuel flow. I doubt there will be but never hurts to ask.

I don't see how reducing fuel flow will solve your problem. It's already running below minimum idle speed.
Has anyone check the injection timing?

exactly, what he needs is a turbo

Not exactly running below minimum, RPM climbs to normal idle speed after 20 to 30 seconds of chugging and spewing unburnt fuel. I believe it's loading up due to thin air as it starts perfectly at low altitude.

Here's an EPA study that hints at what I'm talking about regarding inefficiently burned diesel fuel at higher elevations. Document Display | NSCEP | US EPA
They found that tested diesel cars had substantially higher pollutants in their exhaust (up to 130%) at higher elevations than nearer sea level.
