I was by the area where an auction company is setting up for an auction in a week. There was a line of 10 or 12 compacts(some blue, some red) that were totally ROPless. I saw them at a distance, could not see the make or model.

Seemed really odd to see newer compacts lined up for sale/bid with no rollbar...

Maybe they were shipped without the ROPs installed, and whomever the owner is simply hasn't installed them yet.

I wonder where the law draws the line between a lawn tractor that doesn't require ROPS and a compact that does?

I wonder if it is the law or the lawyer that draws that line... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm thinking maybe they are grey market or something, and don't have ROPS maybe. It is an auction, and they are nowhere near the closest dealer.

Anyways, after having my Kubota for 6 years now, and seing many compacts along the way, it was sure odd to see them all lined up without the rollbar.

It kinda reminds me of seeing Jeeps with no rollbar; growing up we always had full cages. To see on without just seems odd.

I've heard it is something to do with HP. You see lots of 22HP lawn and garden tractors with no ROPS but no 25HP tractors without. Don't know if it is true, so take it with a grain of salt until somone can produce laws in writing.

Power trac has 3 un-rops'ed models
Magna-track doesnt have ROPS standard/as an option
All grey markets have no ROPS(maybe a handfull do)

I guess they figure since its so small it wont roll over. not true.

The Power-Trac folks told us that Virginia law requires them to put a ROPS on units with 25 or more HP. I am a little skeptical about the Virginia part, but then again I was talking to a salesman. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I suspect it is a federal requirement.

My Sears garden tractor is 25hp w/ no ROPS & they sell a 27hp unit as well. I'm not sure how the ROPS regulations are figured but, they don't seem to apply to lawn & garden equipment.
