We have a stock trailer which we had rebuilt, and in the rebuild, we put a ramp on back (moving draft horses along with their vehicles).

The problem I have run into is that when we added a rubber mat to the ramp, it is now too heavy to lift (I technically can lift it, but I risk physical injury). There are a boatload of springs on it, so tensioning up the springs is an option, albeit difficult.

My question is "has anyone used Line-X or Herculiner (or other spray-on lining) on a trailer ramp?"

If you have, has it held up to horses walking on it, especially with either boriums or studs in their shoes?

Thanks in advance!

The Army has used Rhino liner on the deck of a portable bridge with good results. I can't speak to the quality of Herculiner or Linex.

It sounds like a good idea but Linex would probably be too slick for horses to walk on, especially when it's wet. I think I'd find a thinner rubber pad to mount on the ramp. Linex or Superliner is super durable but they are hard and I'm afraid a horse's hooves would slip on it.

I think it may be too slick.

I recently had line-x sprayed in my daily driver truck and was told the texture could be varied. I would agree with others that as installed in my truck and other trucks I have seen it would be too slick for your intended use. However I am not sure if the extra textured application would make a difference. It may be worth a call to an installer to get their opinion and maybe take a look at a extra textured installation. Good luck and protect your back and your animals.

When I had my horses moved from CO to WA in a semi they rolled out a brown fiber mat (not sure what material)That worked quite well as the ramp was noticeably steeper than on the back of a horse trailer. It only took a moment to roll it out and roll it up again to stow, Then you would not be lifting everything at the same time

Yeah, that stuff is called a CoCoMat... It is made of coconut fibers... The wife has used them before. They aren't a permanent solution, and do require some level of "grippiness" underneath.

The guy who built the ramp thinks he can crank up the spring tension enough to overcome the mats. We are hoping... :)

I have the "older" Rhino lining on my 2009 GMC and had it on my 2002 Silverado. I find it to be much softer (and grippier) than the Linex product.

Maybe ask a horse trailer dealer?

linex has been known to be the best. holds its color and is extremely durable because of how its applied. when it comes to bedliners, you really get what you pay for. if you dont mind it chipping or bubbling every now and then, just buy the cheap stuff at vatozone and roll it on yourself. linex is very professional looking and high quality, im probably gonna linex my rocker panels on my chevy pretty soon.
